I'm putting together all the parts for a N96 for my '72 and I've found the air cleaner bases to be expensive! I saw someone repoppin' the base and lid in fiberglass and price is much better but with all the underwood heat will it warp?
Don't care about #s matching but do care if it's going to fall apart

I've had one on my 6pack for 19 years, no problems other than the gel cracked and chipped from getting banged around. (My fault.) Is it correct looking? No but it was easy to grind a chunk out to clear the 2 speed wiper!

Fiberglass can take a lot of heat so it should not warp, but as mentioned it can chip and crack.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I ran a 6-BBL fiberglass air cleaner base and top for many years and it never changed shape or gave me any problems.
