The search is over - new wheels and tires mounted

Ladies and gentlemen, after much frustration, mind changing, discussion, searching, etc. I have new wheels and tires on the car.  I know the purists are about to fire away, and that is ok.  I love my 15" magnums, but the limited tires made me decide I had to do something else.  I decided on 17"s.  Then I decided on 18"s.  Then I decided on 17"s.  And on and on.  This wheel was the one, that wheel was the one.  The fact is that I wanted the advantage of modern rubber, and I wanted wheels on a budget, so I could spend my money on tires (and other stuff).  I was honestly "sacrificing" the magnums for a wheel I would not like near as much just to get the newer tires. I went cheap because I knew I wouldn't be satisfied (and no, I don't like the 17" and 18" magnums, magnums for me should be 15")

Here is how the car sat before the change:  BFG T/S's 235 60 15 all the way around.

So I landed on Boss 338's with black spokes and Nitto 555 Extremes.  Here are the specifics

Front:  18 x 8 Boss 338, 4.5" backspace and +2 offset wrapped in 245 45 18 Nitto 555 Extremes

Rear:  18 x 9.5 Boss 338, 5" backspace and -4 offset with 285 40 18 Nitto 555 Extreme Drag Radials (why not right?)

I was skeptical, as I said I love my magnums.  I was also fearful as my car is so low now because of all the suspension work.

Long story short, I love them, they look great, tucked perfectly, perfect size, no rub, and most importantly I am driving a different car.  I simply can not believe the difference these tires make.  It is ridiculous.  Not only that, I honestly love the look.  I don't know if I could be more pleased.  And all on a very acceptable budget.

This combo is about 1/2" taller than my magnum/BFG set up.  So I gain about 1/4" in height.  Absolutely unnoticeable, except that I can come up my driveway without knocking my headers now!  As I said, I am just all around pleased.

Those wheels look fantastic, good job man. I also like how the black centers tie into the black top/stripe/interior, and help tone down 18 feet of bright yellow paint. It works really well.

They look great mounted on your Charger!  Do not expect much mileage out of those Nitto tires and expect the back ones (the Extreme Drag Radials) to be pretty slick in wet weather.  When I got mine, my buddy who has them on his Roadrunner, told me just do not drive them in the rain! I am extremely pleased with the traction and look of them though I do only drive my Charger when there is no chance of rain!!

Got a feeling you will be very happy with them!   Congrats !!

Thanks JR, and that was exactly what I was thinking.  I photoshopped a number of wheels on the car.  I am personally a fan of the gunmetals but they did not look right.  All shiny chrome looked even ore out of place.  I thought these complimented the vinyl and stripes very well.  I appreciate the compliments.

And thanks to all y'all.  The compliments are great and I love that you guys like them.

I admit I am a little confused though, when does the bashing start?  Is this the honeymoon phase of this thread?

I like the "before" better. Just can't understand the trend to black wheels.  :shruggy:
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

There it is!  I actually have always agreed with you.  But after photoshopping all those wheels they just looked right.  I hate that I love the black wheels, but I do.  With the black roof, stripes, and interior, for me it just pulls it all together.

But I get your point.

Here are some of the photoshops.  I know they are terribly done but I was working with a $1.99 app on an iphone.  It did the trick to let me know what I was looking for.  To me the chromes just did not fit my car, I like the gunmetals but they just did not go with it to me either.  The blacks stood out as the better choice for my car.  I am glad I did the photoshopping thing as I never would have thought that I would like black wheels, on anything.  But now that they are on I am confident they were the best choice for me.

I am speechless-that is a beautiful car if I ever saw one!

They do look very nice in pictures. Are you going by the Niftee 50ees show this evening? Might have to go to see them in person.

Thanks myk!  Your car and your advice honestly set me on the trek to find the wheels, and to go with 18"s.

Carl, I intend to be there if the weather allows.  It looks unlikely at the moment that that will happen, but if it's clear I will be there!

Chuck, I wish we would get some rain around here but, it looks like it will stay well south of us again.  I guess I will check the weather again later!

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Kern Dog

You did quite well. The wheel color blends well with the stripe and vinyl top. The wheel size isn't cartoon-ish like a 20" or larger wheel seems to be. The tire selection in the 18" size is greater and the performance of the modern tires is fantastic.
Nice job.  :2thumbs:

If I could do it over I would opt 18s all around like you guys and put bigger tires in back to keep the overall diameter to 26inchs.
Yes, I have the cartoon, think MUSCLE MACHINES cars, look as you said Kern Dog.

Muscle Machines even asked me if they could produce a vehicle based on mine (they don't have a 68 in their line up), but have not heard back from them. I think they went with a 69 version I saw one identical to mine same wheel setup and everyin in 1/60 scale lineup and white with black stripes.

All of us cartoon-wheeled  Charger guys should get together and cruise one day lol...

Great choice on the 338's. I really like these rims, especially in 18's. Here's how they look on mine.
