It has to be the same car I saw 10 years ago driving around eastern MA, there couldnt be 2 DMCL clones in this area can there?  I recall almost rear ending the car in front of me trying to rubberneck a better look at it.

don duick

You cannot have too many DMCL clones. Very striking and simple. Amazing how effective a black stripe on  bright green paint with slots stands out so much and goes so well together, a perfect combination. One of the most iconic looking chargers to my eyes.

Ghoste

I agree.  When (if) I get the RT where I want it I think I'll do a DMCL clone someday.

70 sublime

Is the green on the DMCL clone the factory sublime green ?
next project 70 Charger FJ5 green

Ghoste

No, it's the 1971 Citron Yella green.

don duick

I painted my 70 in a similar green with the intent of a dmcl clone in 2004 but was talked out of it. Finally got the slots and painted the stripe about 2 months ago.

I love DCMLs.    But where did the sceme come from?  Film production crew?   Or did they just find the car with an after stripe and say, "that's it"!

I've never heard any of the back story.  Is there one?

Ghoste

I believe they did them up for the film.

would build a DMCL clone  if I had the dough  :yesnod:  ,

good question something I always wondered about. Whoever decided on this scheme either sat down and put some thought into it or just quickly in about 5 minutes decided to throw on a stripe on a stand out color and fluked the result.  :shruggy:

Im going to play devils advocate here and ask why its ok to have a dmcl car but the general lee ruins a charger? Not trying to start a fight as i like both cars, but i always see positive comments about dmcl, and the general lee comments are always about ruining a charger.

I wondered the same thing. I suppose if "every 68,69,and 70 Charger" got turned into the DMCL clone and the Generals were the minority it would probably be the same deal. I'd pick the General out of the 2 though. That yellow/green color doesn't do much for me.

don duick

If there were as many DMCL clones as GLs then they would be on par with popularity and haters. Nothing wrong with GLs they look great have a really good color scheme also. Lets start a poll !

c00nhunterjoe

Lol. I wasnt trying to start a poll or anything. I dont think ive come across a charger i didnt like. How can you dislike those lines!?!?!?!

It just boggles my mind when i read the general lee hate posts when its just a couple stickers? But other movie cars, roll cages, backhalfing, blowers through the hood.... thats all ok? im good with all of it cause the way i look at it, somebody fixed that car up and is getting enjoyment out of it and hopefully some young kid will see it on the road and get hooked into the hobby. There are too many honda civics with fart cans on the road.

So not to try and stray too far from the main subject here, i love the dmcl movie. Great chases and action scenes with great REAL driving. If i built another '69, it would be that car.

Ghoste

Only answering for me personally Joe, but I'm not a fan of the back halved whatever cars either.  If there were DMCL reunions where they bought a bunch of old Chargers and sent them flying into locomotives, it would piss me off.  If there were people coming up to me at shows and asking, "when you gonna paint it bright green and smuck up the fender?", that would piss me off.   If I had people constantly telling me the DMCL Charger was the greatest car ever and its the only reason people like Chargers and its the sole reason there are so many still around today, that would piss me off.
I do not hate the GL.  Not even a tiny bit.  I do have a bit of a distaste for some of the stuff that goes along with it.  I know why its there, you don't need to tell me, I'm just tired of it.
This all in a friendly fashion.  ;)

I hear ya.

But it's no crazier than the complaints that DOH is the sole reason you can't buy a nice Charger for $2000 anymore.  DOH fans are usually saying your comment in response to that.

Ghoste

I haven't heard that one but yeah, I'm sure you guys get your share of dumb comments too.  Can I slide across the hood, have you ever jumped it, etc.

69 OUR/TEA

Driving around a DMCL clone , 99 % would not know what it actually is. :Twocents:

TUFCAT

Wasn't that Kryon's build?  :scratchchin:
