1968 Charger front air dam / spoiler

I have searched and found a couple threads concerning front spoilers (I have always called these air dams and spoilers the wing on back, seems like preferred terminology these days is front spoiler).  The couple I found were very old and I figured there are a lot of new folks around here, and maybe some older members with new info so I figured I would start a new thread.

Basically, I would love a front spoiler on my car.  I believe they are mildly functional but I also love the look.  So it seems there are really 3 choices:

1) fab something yourself;

2) '68/'69 camaro front spoilers;

3) Randy's spoilers - https://randysspoilers.sharepoint.com/Pages/6869Chargerspoiler.aspx

They all have their ups and downs.  Fabbing something is probably best, but I do not really have the tools here to do it.  The camaro spoilers are plastic and durable, which I like, but they do not run the width of the car from what I can tell.  Randy's are 22 gauge steel, which sounds great and would look great.  But I would worry about damaging it and its pretty pricey.  Nor does it appear to run the width of the car.

So, as people before me have asked, I am looking for one like in the ad below.  A few years ago when this was discussed no one knew where to get one like this one.  Is this still the case?  Anyone have any ideas?  I like that its full width and it doesn't appear to have the crease in the middle.

Any help appreciated.

The direct connection spoiler is the one to have.  Where these even available for purchase?  If they were I would love to have one.  The spoiler from Randy's just doest fit the looks of the front end to me, it just looks out of place.  Plastic/fiberglass would have to fit like the direct connection one did to look right.

I don't think it was available for purchase, that I know of anyway.  You would think we would have seen/heard of more.

I did see on another site, now wishing I knew which one it was, an old thread where the guys called this a "front guard" or something like that and discussed it being an option in 69.  I do not believe that to be the case.

But I agree, it is the one with the look for sure.

I like the full width one as well, if you find out where to purchase them let me know as I will buy one, cheers, Damien.

I believe the '67 'Maro is the wide one like on mr angrys car...

This was never an option on the Chargers (AFAIK). The wide look, as shown on the direct connection ad, seems to be a better look than the camaro fitted one. I would like to know also where to get one.

I'm running a 69 Z28 spoiler made from frp held on with self tapping screws.

I like that if and when it gets busted up I can easily replace it with another one from any chevy parts dealer for 40 bucks. I don't see the point in a high dollar one on a street driven car.

Also, I think they look great and really finish the look of the front end. Especially since it hides the sway bar, which normally is exposed.

Ive got now two made into one , from a 69 boss mustang , turn up fitted the shape of fenders,
was just not wide enough, but like has been said , plastic and cheap to replace, you will knock it into things.

I bought a Camaro spoiler but I decided not to mount it because the spoiler would hide the Hotchkis sway bar that's so obviously hanging under the car.  I love that fat piece of steel and would rather see it than the spoiler...

Dino

I did install the 69 Camaro spoiler because I wanted to hide that ugly, fat sway bar.

Lol.  BTW did I ever ask you how you mounted it?  Did you have to drill any other holes anywhere, or did you just use whatever was already there?  I still might mount it-I dunno...

Sorry to be the buzz-kill on this one fellas,  but I could go either way on the front spoiler.  It would depend on the car.  Not a "must have".  :-\

Ghoste

Me either, I don't know, I've seen some that I didn't think looked too bad but not something I'd ever do.  To each his own and thats all good, for me personally it takes away the clean look at the front I guess.
And no, was never an option for them.

Aero426

I like a little spoiler in the front.  :2thumbs:

Yea, I am not sold on the available styles, i.e. not full width.  I would be pen to the Direct Connection style as I think it is just really sharp on the car.

I used the original valance holes and drilled new ones in the spoiler.  I used a few strong bolts and the long rod that comes with the kit fits perfectly between spoiler and k member as long as you flatten one end.  Very easy to mount.

I didn't set out to install a spoiler but that ugly light colored sway bar was really an eye sore to me.  I do like the spoiler now, it suits the car.  Especially because I have the black and white thing going on.   :icon_smile_big:

I get where your coming from , but I think the Camaro one is just right. Dont want to block the view of the tires.

Yeah, they are small enough to be not as obtrusive as some of them.

And the way it lines up on the turn signal lights is perfect!
I gotta get one.

I have a direct connection one sitting in my garage. Came with the car when I purchased it.

If you are serious, and you would like to consider unloading it, I will buy it!

I'm going to throw it on the car when its back together. I'm in NZ too, shipping to you (USA?) would be a killer. Are these things worth much used? Have never seen one before.

I don't know what they are worth.  If you have one like the one in the ad, it is the only one I know of.  My limit would probably be around what it would cost me to have one fabbed I suppose, or a little more as I think having a direct connection one would be cool.  I am in USA and had not noticed you were in NZ, shipping would be beast.  In any event, if you ever decide to sell it let me know, I'd find a way to do it.  Otherwise, can't wait to see photos of the car with the spoiler on it!
