I read the sticky that Ron posted a few years ago about the phenolic spacers and blocking the intake heat transfer ports.  I have the transfer ports blocked on my 500" stroker, but my fuel is still boiling on real hot days.  I saw the data he posted on the differences in temp between the heads, intake, and carb.  I have a couple of questions.
Has anyone measured the difference between the 1/2" and the 1" spacers as far as the temp goes.  I am trying to figure out if the effort to make a 1" spacer fit will be worth it for the temp reduction I would get vs the 1/2" spacer.
Also I wonder what the difference in temp would be between the heads, intake, and carb with no modifications from stock at all.  I would expect the heads to be quite a bit hotter than the intake, and the carb to be the coolest of the three without any spacer or heat transfer ports blocked.  So how much of the difference in temp between the three components is due to the spacer and transfer ports still seems to be a bit of an unknown. Am I off in my thinking?

i have never measured the differences but i can tell you that i run a 1/2" spacer on mine and i can lay my hands on the carb in 100* weather with no issues. are you running a spacer now? if so i would check your fuel line to make sure its no getting heat soaked from either laying on a valve cover or too close to a header... etc..etc.

I have no spacer at all now, and am trying to figure out if the 1/2 " will do the trick or if the 1" gives me a much greater temp reduction.  I got stranded a few blocks from home today.  It was 96 degrees out and I was just playing in a long empty parking lot.  My cheap version of a test and tune without going to the track.

1/2" spacer on mine, made a big difference to starting when hot. I wouldn't think a 1" spacer wouldn't make much of a difference if any with heat transfer. I would be more concerned about using a quality spacer than 1/2" or 1" provding you are only looking at a spacer for its insulating ability. I have seen them with extensions that protect the fuel bowls from radiant heat, might be worth investigating.

I only need the insulating properties.  It runs fine otherwise.  My fuel lines at not resting on hoses or too close to the headers so the spacer seems to be the best solution.

The 1/2in spacer is fine. That's what I used when we broke Denis's engine in with and the spacer alone netted a 70* surface temp reduction.  :2thumbs:
