A friend of mone has a 1970 Sport Fury with a factory console mounted tach.  The tach doesn't work properly and someone told him the C-bodies used some sort of special module that is mounted to the firewall and this module is needed to power the tach.  Anyone know more about this?

A383Wing

not that I know of....all console tachs 67 & up should be the same with circuit board inside like the other body styles

Ghoste

Which is exactly what I thought Bryan.  He also had the tach rebuilt and tested and it is supposed to work fine other than on his car. :shruggy:

wonder if he has some sort of after market JC Whitney MSD style ignition module on it? Or some sort of capacitive discharge system?

Ghoste

I thought that too but its 100% stock.  Did they even offer a console tach for the 1970 C-body line?

A383Wing

I don't have a parts book for '70.....I know vacuum gauge was offered.....

would like to see picture of this item on firewall

Ghoste

So would I.  I've been throught the 70 book and I can't find either of them.

A383Wing

the only tachs from our cars that used a module was 66 & earlier, and none of those were mounted in the engine compartment...all were inside the car, behind dash, or under console.....would be curious to find out how many wires are coming out of his tach he has

I'm thinking the "someone" from the friend has some mis-information
