If your only going to have 2 - 6 X 9's in the rear deck

With limited space for front speakers and not wanting to modify the look of the interior to much, is it possible to get rich clear sound from only two rear deck speakers?

Yes. Depends on the deck power and speakers installed. Limited in the bottom end but a small 10" box in the trunk will cover it quite well. Should be clear.

It didn't work for me but my system was pretty basic.  JVC deck to 6x9's in the package tray.

Somehow I need to find a way to mount speakers up front.

What I have done so far, which I am not to happy with, Is a nice deck under tha dash to start with, Rockford Fosgate Punch 400 watt amp in the trunk, 2 Kicker 6x9's in the rear deck, and 2 Kicker 3 1/2" speakers in the center of the dash in front using a plate I got on the internet to mount the two speakers. Cant even see that they are in there.

The sound quality at high volume is okay. Nice deep bass, could be better in the mid and high range, but at lower listening levels it kind of all washes out and sounds like a cheap hand held radio.

I dont know if the problem is the Kicker speakers? Or just the inherent weakness of the design of the interior for sound quality.

Would a set of high dollar 6x9's improve the sound quality? Or just lighten my wallet?

Kicker is an entry level product at a decent price point. They put much emphasis on the bass which drowns out the highs and mids. If you were to try out a clarion or alpine 6x9 which has more emphasis on the highs and mids it might sound better. The amp shouldn't be too much of an issue but an equalizer might help as well.

as I've said in another thread I've got a set of "hidden under seat" speakers to use in the front

and a set of 400W pioneer  4way 6x9's with an angled spacers for the rear  when installed will let you know  but I'm hoping it will give some bass in the cab + the highs /midrange from the rears

Yep, buy a pair of "under the seats" speakers........check out what Crutchfield might have.
In general speakers located behind the primary listening area provide only "fill" sound. A sub can be put
anywhere i.e. trunk because low frequencies are non-directional. 5x7 co-axial speaks in the package
tray are more than adequate.
Quality speaks under the front seats will give you a much richer and full sound field in the car.  :Twocents:

Classic Industries has kick panels with or without speakers for A-Body cars. I can't help but to wonder why they aren't available for B-Body yet or if it might be in the planning stages? :shruggy:

I was going to cut holes in a spare set of door panels for my Scamp but now I'll probably just get these....

I think the reason is the space behind the kickpanel is rather sparse for the b-bodies, the depth is almost non-existent. I got the plate for the speaker in the dash but haven't gotten that far yet. I have some 20 year old polk audios for the rear deck, they sounded great in my 85 daytona. There's a place down here in Ossining that caters to the ricer crowd. May give them a look for the sound system. I figure if they put them in everyday, maybe they can find a good place to mount speakers.

It's been a while since I've taken a close look at the kick panel area in a B-Body, you're probably right & there is less room. I am curious & will take a look later. The twin speaker set up that goes in the single dash speaker location, the one Paul G mentioned, is one of the better designs I have seen & heard.

Bill440RT has speakers in his door panels that look okay. They aren't the large, surface mount type.....

How are y'all mounting two 6x9's on the rear deck? My car has 1 6x9 hole and the other is like a 4x10 or something (defrost?).
Also, the duel voice coil 4x10 in the dash sounds decent.

I'm no expert by any means, but I think with these old cars (wind noise, road noise etc), in order to have good quality sound, you need to have speakers in all optimal places (like modern cars).

I have 6x9'' speakers in the back, tweeters and dual 4'' speakers in the dash with a modern head unit, but it still doesn't sound great, I think the fact that the dash is facing the windshield doesn't help either.

Since my door panels were nice but my kickpanels not so much, I decided to put some speakers there after seeing this thread: http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?45081-kick-pannels-with-speakers&highlight=kick+panel
But I decided to try and fit 5 1/8 speakers in there.
They fit... but just barely, it was a bit of a pain trying to fit the magnet into the opening in the A-pillar on the drivers side, because there are some cables/connectors in the way there.
I'm waiting for 3-way crossovers to hook them up... I would expect them to make a difference  :Twocents:.

I can vouch for the Alpine's in the deck. Nice speakers.

The dual-voice setup for the dash is also a decent alternative if you don't want to cut anything up front.
I contemplated doors vs kick panels for a while. Others are right, the space behind the kick panel is almost nil. In order to put a speaker in there you have to compromise with a really shallow speaker, and from what I've researched this would likely sacrifice sound quality due to the shallowness of the cone.

I have not started testing what I have but component matching ratings for RMS/Ohm impedance/wire size and speaker sensitivity/frequency range are all to be considered as much as placement.    http://www.bcae1.com
Crutchfield's is one of the few suppliers that list true spec. of all there car audio and that was a big help. http://www.crutchfield.com
