KABOOM!!! INTELL Update...

Got a bit of a scare yesterday afternoon here at lovely Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.

There I was, just sitting in my hootch, studying for my upcoming promotion exam, when all of the sudden I was ROCKED out of my chair by a double blast that was really really DAMN close- close enough and shocking enough to make me yelp out; WTF!!!!

Like an idiot, I stepped outside to see what the hell was going on.  All the birds in the nearby trees were squawking like mad after what just occured.  I saw only a few guys running.  I stood outside my hooch for another ten seconds and then I thought to myself how stupid I must be- what if that was just the first volley?  I quickly stepped back inside to listen for what might come next.

Nothing.

Now, normally, at least twice a day, our Polish coalition partners who fish out the UXO's here get with the folks at the command post and announce when they'll have controlled explosions.  Again, this happens every day and it's no big deal.  A muffled boom off in the distance after the call out from the "giant voice" and the base doesn't miss a beat.

Well, there was no warning over the "giant voice" yesterday when this double-whammy went off!  Which had everyone wondering what was up?  I checked in with our local intel shop and they said that they determined that one explosion was just 200 yards "over the wire" (over the berm of the base) and at the same time, another explosion was about a mile from where the other one was.  They didn't know what the cause was- but I told them that it simply HAD to be anti-tank mines from when the Rooskies were here and they were set off somehow.  That being said- that explosion that when off 200 yards off the wire was only 350 yards from my hootch!!! YIKES!!!

Just another exciting day here in Hell's Half Acre at Bagram.

Keep me and my family in your prayers folks...they do work!

Bradley

INTELL UPDATE:

You guys are gonna love this one-
The word from our Intell folks said those despot Taliban ragheads took two large anti-tank mines and wrapped them together with C-4.  That explains the "double boom" that was simultaneous.  No damage to anyone or anything, just a big hole in the ground, and some tweaked nerves for a few hours.

Good thing I'm almost outta here and back where I belong...with my family and in the safe confines of my Charger!

Sounds like a thankless job the Polish people are doing, and I doubt it was them that did the one that had Afflyer staining his drawers.

.........CANT..........STOP................LAUGHING!!!! :haha:   Oh, GOD.  I'm crying.

So you got your cherry popped.   I've been within 30 yards of a few mortar rounds, and I know what a butt puckering experience it can be.

At least in the Air Force you can go to the chow hall and get a nice Hagandaz icecream bar to chill out with.   :icon_smile_big:

Good luck and God speed, you are in my prayers.

Semper Fi,

Rocky, my brother in arms,

Let me kindly correct you first on the Hagendaz thing...we ain't got those things here.  :icon_smile_big:

And lastly, "getting my cherry popped?"...umm, well okay then, if that's what they call it when explosions from old anti-tank mines (must have been that), go off not far from my little "happy place" in my hootch!  :icon_smile_big:

At least NOW I have a bonafied "There I was" story to tell my daughter someday.

For the record- I never soiled myself.  Not even a little bit.

I appreciate your kind prayers though, along with everyone else's.

Damn! :o Glad you're ok, Bradley. Was it close enough to leave your ears ringing? Maybe they should go cruisin' around the area with some anti-mine devices, eh? ;)

Be safe, Man! :patriot:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Bradley, I've been danger close to a few of those things and alot of other things.  Be careful, keep your head down.  Please use caution on what exactly you post here or anywhere else.  Bad guys are listening too and you don't want to confirn or deny anything to them.  Besides Uncle Sam is really hot on slamming folks for blogs and web postings.  Just use caution.  Stay Safe Brother.  MSG Scott, Intelligence Analyst, 5th SFG (Airborne).
