Thats a good solution, that could actually work. Either that, or fabricate my self.

I stole a pic from the Pro-touring forum, this is a Fury with modified wheelhouses.

Check out the Bill Reilly Motorsports Alterkation suspension systems for the Charger, I have one on mine, fit like a glove and I believe you can go with air ride instead of the coil overs. Check out my car on the "Almost There" thread.

Nice :) Looks like i've chosen almost the same color as you. Beautiful car! Yeah, looks like they have some sweet setups for the Charger  :2thumbs:

A little update.

Since the upper cowlpanel was dented, i decided to remove it and replace it.
Started the job with drilling all the spotwelds.

..aaand finally:

Looks like the lower cowl is in good shape

Removed the radiatorsupport also. Starting to drill the spotwelds for the right inner fender which i'm also replacing:

Here you can se the left framerail is a bit crooked, how can i fix this without replacing the whole rail? Remove the top plate and straighten it from inside maybe?

phantom

Why is there a hole beside the keyhole? Anyone seen that before?

JB400

That's not supposed to be there.  Only reason I can see of why that would be there might be for a battery disconnect/ kill switch if previous owner installed a trunk mounted battery.

phantom

Thats what i thought. Oh well, whats another AMD panel

68pplcharger

Just trim a piece of metal to fit there and seam weld it in. Would be cheaper and a lot less work...  :Twocents:

Hey guys. Currently on vacation in Florida now, staying here until sept 18th. Right now we are in Tampa. Anyone know of any upcoming carshows or parts shops i need to visit while i'm here? :)

phantom

Back from vacation, started mounting the rotisserie

But before i can mount the car to it, i still have this issue with the framerail. Here i have testfitted a radiatorsupport that came with the car, look at how much it is out of place on the left side, while sitting in place on the right. Look at how well it sits on the top-mount compared to the bottom.

So, the first job will be straightening the rails then.

phantom

Been a while since i last posted. Done some work though.

Using the original tail-panel :

phantom

Right rear trunk extension corner was smashed in, cut out and re-welded:

One layer with Owatrol 4 weeks ago, than two layers of 2K epoxy

Window lifter cleaned, greased and one new roller on each side

New parts epoxy primed

Wurth seam sealer

Had to trim the rear valance to fit the original tail-panel, i had to cut along the red line.

Some adjustments needed. Not welded yet, just hanged the parts on with vise grips

Bumpers will be tucked for that smooth look

Nice clearance between wheelhouse and quarter

Very nice work...I would also assume that the hole in the tail light panel would be for a battery disconnect.  Maybe the car has a history in racing?

Or I suppose someone could have been locked in the trunk and that was the work of the rescuer, haha.

I'll be following for updates...great color you've selected!

Thank you :)

Who knows, maybe the car has lived a life on the strip. At least i think someone has had fun with it earlier, it was dented i all four corners, plus it had tyre-marks in the wheelwell, suggesting it bottomed out several times, maybe inspired by The Dukes of Hazzard? :) These cars were cheap in the late 70s and early 80s, i think many were quite abused.

As for the tailpanel, i am going to swap it for a new AMD one. I`m struggling to align all the new parts with this original tailpanel, as this was dented also. There`s not one straight line on the panel, alot of bondo was applied by some previous owner, instead of trying to straighten it out. So instead of wasting hours (and new bondo), i`m swapping it. Have also ordered new trunk gutters.

phantom

Did some more alignment on the quarters and deck filler-panel, looks like i got the same problems as many others. The lower corners of the windowframe doesnt really fit very well.

Right side is the worst. Thought i'd cut along the white line and re-shape the corner.

Here on the left side i'll try to carefully hammer in the middle of the corner, i think the molding will fit nicely after  :yesnod:

The quarter and deck filler doesnt line up very well either, ideas? Maybe they fit better when welded up? The quarter in this area seems a bit wavy, and the deck filler is very straight.
Maybe i need to pull the quarters off again and try to straighen them a little. I think the trunk supports are pulling them a little towards the deck filler..

mopar4don

I will be doing the exact same thing So I am also VERY interested in how you fix these areas!

Charger-Bodie

I tighten the quarter to Dutchman panel seam a couple ways. Lots of vise grips underneath. C clamps, whatever. If that's not enough I take a couple 3/8 nuts, weld them on each side of the seam, then take a 5/16 bolt and nut through the  welded 3/8 nuts and draw it tight. When you get it where you want I it tack weld it right in the seam, but in a fashion that allows you to dress the weld with a cut of wheel to make it look like it's not there.

My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

phantom

Been a while since i posted here, but got a few things done anyways.

Took Charger-bodie's advice and tacked the quarters to the deckfiller, need to dress it up with that cuttingwheel later.

Also got my new tailpanel and have started welding the parts together.

Using lazer to position the parts just right

Happy with the gaps

Reshaped the right side lower window corner

Paying attention to those little details right now will really pay off in the long run. Looking good. :2thumbs:
