We now have an aquarium. 60 gallon. My wife won this set up at her work. Tank, stand, and light. All for the cost of one raffle ticket. So after a trip to the pet store to get the right filter and all the "stuff" that goes inside, I have hundreds of $$ in this thing. Close to $400 I think. It was trial and error with dead fish till the tank got settled down and the water got the right amount of healthy "stuff" for the eco system to get going.

Tried to get the whole "fish family" in a group pic. Some are camera shy I guess. I always wanted a school of neon tetras, dozens. they look really cool when they all swim in sync. Hmm? Right now we have four Platy's, 5 Tiger Barbs, and one Clear Glow kind of fish, he is the only survivor of the first round of fish carnage. You can see through him. Kind of cool. The barbs are constantly playing tag and hide & seek. They never stop.

His belly's full

Looks like you're off to a nice start.

Very nice, looks good.  :2thumbs:

I never had a Platy that lived more then a few months. Tiger Barbs are tough and cool. But they can be aggressive towards the other fish. I got Neon's, Black Tetra's, 2 Cory Cat's, a big algae eater, and a few head & tail lights, and 3 silver dollars

Cool, reminds me of my piranha's when I was a teenager.

Awesome!! That's a great prize!

Another fellow aquarist here. I got rid of my tanks years ago when I moved out of home. Had some really big tanks with really big fish.
A friend of mine was currently re-doing his house, asked me if I wanted his 65-gallon setup. Absolutely! So, I had a fish tank again.
I had to re-do or replace almost EVERYTHING, refinished the stand & canopy, etc. So yeah, this "free" tank ended up costing quite a bit, still saved a bunch though. Another friend took the tropical community fish that were living in it.
It now holds a few South American cichlids: a quite nasty firemouth, green terror, an Oscar, and a pair of convicts (male & female). Also a marbled pleco, 2 catfish, and a needlenose gar. One big happy family.  :D
They are TOUGH to photograph, they don't stay still!!

A little trick I was told when setting up a new tank is to put a few feeder goldfish in there to get the water & filter "seasoned." Then introduce new fish slowly.
Best of luck with the aquarium Paul G, hope it brings you years of enjoyment!  :2thumbs:
