Almost There

It's almost there, three and a half years of filthy back breaking undercoat removal, rusty panel replacement, V10 engine installation, a little bit of filler, paint and polish and I am seeing the light. Trim, wiring and interior and my dream will be complete. I've been running the car around the block (engine is wired separately from the car) and I will say it is a definitey a sub 5 second car to 60, closer to 4. It is frighteningly fast. The Green is from the 2011 Dodge Challenger and is called "Green with Envy". I can't want to take this car out on a Sunday drive.

A "teaser" picture of the back of that beautiful '68 Charger just isn't enough!!  We definitely need to see the engine compartment with that V10 stuffed in it !!

Congrats on, what appears to be, some mighty fine work!

I will put some pictures together, like a brief history and post them. The engine fits in the engine compartment like it was originally there. I only had to sink the firewall back 4 inches. Tunnel had to be replaced to fit the 6 speed tremec.

I'm curious where the exhaust pipes are...
[ŌŌ]ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ[ŌŌ] = 68
[ŌŌ][ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ][ƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖƖ][ŌŌ] = 69
(ŌŌ)[ƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗ](ŌŌ) = 70

3 inch in and out flowmasters under the back seats with tips turned down just short of the rear axel. Car has been lowered 2 inches in the rear so trying to get the pipes to the rear over the axel wasn't happening.

This is an earlier picture of the engine in the car, before the car was painted, apologies for it being a bit blurry, from my phone camera. The motor fits in like it was meat to be there. Installation wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. What I did find out was that all the Viper experts out there really aren't experts at all. The Viper motor is just an overhead valve V8 with two extra cylinders. I have documented the issues I had with the motor else where in this forum, don't trust X2 Builders if you happen to have business with them in the future, or plan a Viper installation.
Anyway, all issues and problems sorted out and the motor runs fantastic.

Just for curiosity, what's with the triangle shaped cutouts in the cowl plenum?

hollywood1336

I will put some pictures and a video together soon. The kid next door helps me out occasionally for the experience, he took a video but I couldn't read it. Will get another.
The trianglar holes are there because I had to access the area for repairs, I made some billet cover plates to go over the holes, just haven't installed them yet. This was originally a Texas Toy Box car, precviously documented in this forum, there was rust in all the usual places and rust in some unusual places, all corrected and repaired. I was actually trying to sell the car a couple years ago but glad I didn't, it really has turned out better than expected.

Great work! What kind of chassis upgrades? Where did you hide all the electronics for the V10? HVAC all functional?

In 1999 or 2000 Mopar performance came out with the Gen 2 Viper crate motor. Along with the crate motor you could also buy a wiring harness which just ran the engine and a crate motor computer, again, just to run the motor. This was for hot rod or ? installations. The crate motors are identical to the viper car motors so if you get a motor out of a wrecked Viper (as I did) you can buy the wiring harness and computer and run the motor. I have the computer located under the dash and the wiring harness hidden in the right wheel well passing through the bulkhead and then hidden under the dash, very clean. The harness is completely sealed and wrapped so weather shouldbe be a problem with it routed in the wheel well.
Also, by time I got my motor, Mopar performance had discontinued the crate motor computer and the computer I was sent with the motor could not be reprogrammed due to the security within the computer. I found a guy on the net who downloaded the software for the crate motor computer from the Mopar Performance website and programmed me a brand new computer. this took about 3 months to find the guy and between us find the programming to download.
The motor came with an AC pump but I have that removed for now. I will get the car running and on the road and go back to the AC. The crate motor computer and harness do not run the stock AC pump anymore so I can pretty much do what I want there, adapt a Vintage air system or? Suggestions would be welcome.
This car has been a huge challenge, the motor installation was the easiest part. I have the Bill Reilly front suspension system installed so that helped to make the motor installation go smoothly. The challenge has been to get the so called Viper experts to provide the necessary information to get the motor running. Dan Lesser from Viper Speciality Performance has been a miricle worker for me. Out of all the Viper experts, including the Mopar performance tech specialists, Dan has been the real expert helping me along.
