hey guys, want to know how to tune the factory carb

I want to turn the idle down, so it has less rpms

I found a screw, on the drivers side of the car, the only real way to get to it is by having the car off, and slide the linkage back towards the firewall

this screw normally faces down towards the motor, but I turned that and my idle came down, but now my car has what seems to be a surge, seems to run lean around 40-50 mph...and I think that screw is what did it

so if I turn that back in 1/2 turn, my idle will be a lot higher...I just want lower rpms

im going to try and remove and cap my vac advance tonight to see if it helps (with the engine surge), but I want to know what I turned out 1/2 a turn.....I got a feeling it wasn't a idle screw  :shruggy:

General 68

What carburetor? The screw you are refering to is for setting high idle during warm-up when the choke is activated. There is another screw that sets curb idle and it is propably located in the same are but with the head pointing up. Lars

OEM carter
I got the high idle back to where it was....got the idle perfect.....but my car still has the lean surge....

The 2 screws facing the radiator are for tuning...do I turn them in to make it richer or turn them out?

Out for richer, but it might not solve your issue.

it didn't, I backed them out last night a 1/2 turn and it got rid of my stumble I had just above idle

still got the surging going on, tried to disconnect the vac line and plug the hole to the carb to see if that helped and that didn't either

might be a timing issue
