PLEASE HELP ME FIND MY DREAM CAR

I am still backing Ben on this endeavor.  The charger I currently have took me considerably longer than this to find.  The charger I had before this one took me considerably longer to find.  I think every car I have ever bought, including newer cars, took me considerably longer to find.  The difference here is that Ben has taken us all along for the ride.  In reality though guys, it hasn't been that long to find a charger, even though the thread is brutally long.

Sometimes you just have to find the right car.  A car can come along that checks all the boxes and just doesn't "feel right".  Then eventually a car comes along that does just "feel right".  All of that is fair.

All that being said, Ben just has 2 basic problems, which have been reiterated throughout this string numerous times.  1) Ben wants to find a car now.  Well these are not the kind of cars that you find the right one "now".  2) Ben does not have near enough money for what he wants.  A 68 or 70 charger, not in basket case condition, is not going to be found on Ben's budget.  If the 70 at the fair price (or better) of $17,500 doesn't do it, then Ben's bait is in the wrong fishing hole.  If what you have is $10k, you will not find what you are looking for in a 68 or 70.  Unless you want to spend the next couple years putting it together (and at the beginning of this thread it seems that was fine with you, now a nice driver seems to be the minimum you want).

And that sucks Ben, and I'm sorry, but that is the case.  If you can only afford a basket case, then that is what you should be looking for.  Or re-focus.

With that in mind I will say chargers are great.  But classic mopars in many flavors are great.  Look in to the Swinger.  Broaden your search and you may find happiness, or at least a stepping stone.

And if it makes you feel any better, I really really want a daytona, or a 500, or a hemi 4 speed 68, or a ferrari.  It is just not in the cards.  It is what it is at the moment.  For all of us.

For the conspiracy theorists, I have no doubt Ben is who he says he is.  Unless Ben set up a facebook page years ago in the hopes of messing with us now.  Unlikely.  Ben is a kid.  Looking for an awesome car.  It is what it is.

Thanks rechrgd!  I am crazy about the combo myself, although at first I wasn't necessarily.  I was looking for a twin to the car in my avatar, my dad's.

If you are interested, and have anything to do with the facebook, I have just started a group there that SS1 68 chargers only.  Trying to find and share pics with as many as I can.  If you are over there, please join!!!

This goes for any one else with a 68 SS1 that stumbles upon this thread.

It does suck to have money burning a hole in your pocket....but $10K isn't what it used to be and guys my age that now have some disposable income want to get that car they had "back then."

I sold my pretty much perfect 70K miles, survivor sassy grass 71 Duster Twister about 12 years ago for $5000.  I remember back then people on AOL boards (remember those?) saying you'll never get $5K for a 318 duster...
Well eventually I did, and now I couldn't touch that car for $20K.

Imagine what I'll feel like in 20 years after I sell this charger.   :scratchchin:

I don't think there are any haters, just some are finding it to be a little repetetive?

I was just thinking along the same lines-37 pages is a long run for a thread of this type, but hey-I want to see the 'OP get what he wants...

Back N Black

The reallity is, it takes more that a few months to find a good 2nd gen charger. It took me 2 years of driving hours and hours in Ontario and Quebec looking at chargers. Imagine if i had to post every lead in a "help me find a charger" thread, It would be hundreds of pages. It seem like your in panic mode to find a charger and it will end up in buying someting you will regret. Take you time ,relax.  :Twocents:

I bought my Charger in 2001/2002 when I was 17.  The car's sat for the last 13 years in my possession because of lack of money and my time as a kid was spent doing other things.

Now as a 30 yo adult with no children I can afford it.

Ben, get something cheaper, a Dart, Valiant, whatever.  A few years ago I bought my Dart for $3500 and drove it home, 2 door V-8 car.  That would be a great first car.  Still an old Mopar and far cheaper than a Charger.  Slant six cars are all over still and can be had for throwaway prices.  I gave away, for free, a running, driving 1966 Valiant a few years ago.  Finding a Charger now with your budget won't happen and if it does happen it will sit for 10 years until you are old enough to handle a big project.  A Charger is my dream car as well.

Something about getting older too, you'll respect the car more and be far less likely to trash it.  I said the same thing when I was younger, that I would never trash my (nice) cars.  I look back (with shame) on the 60k original miles spotless Plymouth Fury I had that didn't last me two years because of how I drove it.  Muscle cars are an old man's hobby these days, sorry to say, and no offense to the old men here. The Mopar show at my Dodge dealer yesterday was nothing but guys over 50, or 60.  There was one young guy under 30 driving a beat to hell 74 Road Runner, good on him, but that's just how it goes.

That one is gonna need another 20k for paint and body work alone to get it look decent. Make that 40k to get it fully restored...

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

is 16K doable Ben? The 70 from this site, http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,113262.0.html

Sorry that I  made a dead link I did post that I would take 16K, and I will. I deleted the post because I thought it redundant.

So I just added OBO to the original ad  instead.

Just save your money. When you turn 30 you'll be able to buy a really good one.

ACUDANUT

When you 30, you be will knee deep in kids, house and your daily drivers you must have to get to work.

Ram07

20's happen, ya get married, buy a house...30's happen you have kids, 40's its still all about kids, upgrading the house...50's roll around, a divorce, and University tuition, :brickwall: haha, but that's just me, I still don't have a Charger!

Buy one when youre young!

indreams84

I'm 29....no kids (yet)....no wife (yet)......I learned my lessons from my less fortunate friends who have taken the plunge, and subsequent divorces in some cases.

It's all about waiting and not getting roped by the immediate gratification haha.

Now I am about to fly to Myrtle beach to party with some Army buddies from Ft. Bragg next week, take my 69' Charger to a few shows, and shoot some of my ARs, handguns WITH the younger gf
