Love it or hate it, the General Lee being inducted to the MHOF at Carlisle this week is an honour for fans of the 1969 Dodge Charger everywhere.

I have no idea what that is, or when it began, but im surprised it wasn't done sooner.

Usually when someone yells "Mopar" Several others will say "General Lee"

Ghoste

It only began a few years ago and its actually about the people not the vehicles.

I think the GL is the only non-person being inducted.   Everyone else will be there in person.

Baldwinvette77

Thats weird.. so which GL will they use, Lee 1? some other tv car? or a clone  :shruggy:

Not sure what specific GL (if any) will actually be present at the hall on Saturday night.    I believe "The General Lee" persona as a whole is what is being inducted.

HOT ROD magazine declared the GL "most influential hot rod of all time" a few years ago.

Love it or hate it, that is absolutely true.

This is quite a snub to the slant six and the ballast resistor.

I'm so thrilled I think I'll fart.

Ghoste

I understand your feelings and it isn't the first car I'd try to recreate personally but its fame and influence are undeniable and so far, it and Christine are the only two automobile "persona's" inducted.  Since the idea isn't to induct cars based on popularity of the marque or model I like the idea that a 69 Charger is in there.  :icon_smile_big:

I think people think it's cool to not like the general lee because most people do but really I think we all love it!

Ghoste

No, I don't agree, I have to say strongly I'm one of the ones who really hates the appearance of it.

Cooter

Haters gonna hate. Glad the ol GL got the nod. Wonder if the Hemi stands a chance? :smilielol:
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

Ghoste

Only if the Hemi becomes a character as opposed to an object.  ;)
Beyond that, its fame is well assured my friend.

maybe it's because non car guys and gals would think anything with the flag and numbers is a general and that gets under our skin but I think it brings a lot of attention and value to our cars and that's great for me.

I think they need to give a not to all the 68's used, to keep the GL going all these years   :yesnod:

In this era of political correctness surprised a car with a Confederate flag on the roof would be so honored.  Perhaps the Museum deserves more credit (i.e., they can see past the overly sensitive political correctness conversations) and simply recognize it as a popular (but flawed) car.  Personally, GL is not at all a favorite and I can only think of the cars destroyed making the show but agree with some of the other posters, publicity is probably a good thing.

Ghoste

Not so much a museum as an annual public recognition.  This has nothing to do with the Chrysler Museum, or whats left of it, in Michigan, this is a public nod to the people who made this hobby of ours what it is.  A magazine top ten list of our heroes if you will.
