Im looking at doing a nitrous setup just cause I cant afford to go supercharger for now and nitrous is quick and cheap. From what I hear most 440s should be able to handle a 150 shot easily. I got a friend with some experience setting up and running nitrous so I got some help in that department just wana see what you guys thing  What do you guys think my 440 can handle? Its 8:1 compression with eddy aluminum heads balanced blue printed with a fairly solid bottom end and forged pistons...

Thanks

Im not into bottles cheap initially but over time they eat & ton of $$ with nothing to show for it
but done correctly you should be able to take 100 shot or more , any power adder will shorten the life of an engine & nitrous is as hard as anyhting on an engine if not more so , most power adders come on smoothly not with the hit of nitrous

CFMopar

Anything else u might recomend short of supercharging? I'd liike to add just a bit more unf untill I can afford the supercharger setup...

for a quick install nitrous is hard to beat juust make SURE you have enough fuel supply & don`t lean the engine out
virtually anything else requires a lot more work to hook up , turbos & under hood supercharges are a lot more work to install & tune
I don`t know what you have now but cam carb intake headers gears & converters are all quick gain items too

CFMopar

292/501 comps cam , street dom intake, 17/8 hooker ceramic coated headers, e heads, 3.91 gears 2800 stall.. Only problem is engine is 8:1 I do plan to supercharge so I dont feel like ripping the cam out only to do it again when I supercharge...

I'm not a nitrous fan either....all throttle no bottle  :P

What that combo really needs is a set of pistons to wake it up. The 2355's would be an easy swap and you wouldn't even need to rebalance as they are within a few grams of the 2366's that are in there now. That piston with Eddies and the comp 292/501 will make 480hp easy.  :yesnod:

Looks like your engine is setup for supercharging... so why not just wait until you have the money for a supercharger??

Have you looked into the screw-type superchargers from places like Whipple?  (Looks sorta like a smaller version of a traditional roots-type Weiand 6-71 blowers, but it actually operates a lot differently.)  These things come onto FULL boost by 2000 RPM and then stay flat the rest of the powerband.  The opposite of a certrifugal-type Paxton deal.

From what I've read, they sound like a lot more street fun than a centrigfugal setup ever would be.  And they're a lot closer to fitting under the hood than the old-school Weiands ever are.

Whipple can be a problem , they are made in Sweden & there is no support for parts AT ALL , you have a problem you either buy new or send the blower to Sweden

Interesting discussion - almost turned into a nos vs supercharger argument eh?  I've gone both routes - when you lay it all out, they realy are comperable in price. For example - I got a supercharger kit for my small block new from summit or jegs, for about $1100. It included a cam, charger, pulleys, intake and gaskets.  It was pretty easy to install considering I knew nothing when I started.  On another car, I installed a NOS nitrous kit for about $500.  I also had to learn and buy things to reprogram the car(computer controlled '93 Formula) which was another $500 for a laptop and two programs, and a chip programmer and clearer.  Not to mention that a normal bottle of NOS costs over $50 to fill and it will last one or maybe two nights at the track. That means two bottles, I've already spent as much as the supercharged car. Now on a older car like a charger, you'd have to increase the fuel other ways like adding a bigger fuel pump, changing the carb and tuning it for hours but it will still have costs. so price wise - I wish I had supercharged that car years ago now.  I was also trying to go the "easy and cheap way" but know better now.
NOS is fun still - but more fun on the street when running neck in neck with someone and THEN you wave goodbye. On the track - its who has the power from start to finish and can be consistent. NOS is tough to maintain consistency. I dont use it during competition for that reason.
Things to think about... How about a used supercharger setup?   ;)
