I just love these distributors. They are rock steady spark and easy to tune. Just wanted to throw this out there for those considering  distributers. I also used the fbo box with the adjustable rev limiter. It also works really good.

I don't know about the distributors but I'll say this about their pointman here on this site: Ron.  He took the time to answer my questions, and even told me that since my current ignition and timing systems seemed to be in good shape, to hold off on buying the Firecore parts.

If Ron told me to pour iced-tea into my crankcase to get Hemi-like power out of my car I would do it without hesitation, so he could've sold me the whole Firecore kit and kaboodle but he didn't, and that says a lot to me about a man and probably the products that he represents.  Either way, with Ron or the Firecore stuff I don't think you can go wrong... :2thumbs:

As usual, I love hearing about people who have enjoyed improvement with their cars using the Firecore stuff...

Ron is good people. He spent a ton of time with me on the phone when I got my distributor, not sure what he makes per sale (if anything) but it can't be much per hour compared to the time he spent.

Ron was invaluable during the engine planning stages when building my '69 (& beyond). He always took to time to answer questions in detail and with language that was easy to understand.
Although the Mallory-based MP dist in my '68 seems to be doing the job, I've been considering swapping to a Firecore for some time. After hearing all the praise stories it may not be long now.
Thank you Ron, for all that you do. You are one of the good guys!  :cheers:

I think the thing I like the most is the adjustability if the mech. Advance. Loosen two screws and move it. Lock it back down , check it, if its good your done. Non of the weld , grind repeat junk.

And yes we are blessed to have Ron on the site and as a friend. A totally stand up guy who would do anything for a friend or someone he hasn't even met.

Looks like we're in the same dilemma.  Our current 'MP distributors seem to be doing OK but if everyone else is switching to the Firecore stuff it couldn't hurt us to do the same...

Thanks for the kind words guys  :2thumbs:

I consider all the members on DC.com my friends and they get treated as such. It's obvious that I like to troubleshoot and help....i get a lot of personal satisfaction when guys overcome problems and improve performance with their cars.  :icon_smile_big:

This is a hobby and it's supposed to be fun. At times it can be frustrating but remember that there's allways a solution for every problem and anything can be fixed or improved upon. Hopefully my past experiences can help point you guys in the right direction with the least amount of financial pain.  :icon_smile_cool:

FireCore is indeed top shelf stuff. Rick has worked very hard to bring a high quality product to market at a very competetive price. He is a Mopar guy through and through who really cares about the hobby. The quality of the products speak for themselves and testimonial after testimonial bears this out.  :cheers:

Rest assured that i will never sell or push something that isn't needed....i'm not programmed that way and never have been. It wouldn't be fair to sell a replacement part to a friend when the one they have is working adequately and there would be no advantage to replacing said part. On the other hand when things start to go sideways i'll be here to help even if it doesn't involve purchasing new parts from Firecore because again it's just the challenge that I enjoy. Thanks for your trust and support....it is a two way street.  :bow:

I just installed my Firecore system, put the plug wires on yesterday and this is top notch quality!  Everything looks great and I can't wait to fire it up.

Well, after reading all this I know a couple things.

Ron is a good guy.
Ron has good taste in beer.

But, I have a couple questions on the ignition systems.
How reliable are they in long term? I mean, with the CD components in the dist, any issues with heat being right on the motor?
As far as wiring, what all is needed? A 3 wire, I'm guessing coil + and - and ignition pos.
Does it need anything special?
Will it work with a GM dual connector 12V coil? (Trying to get rid of resistors, just had the one for my wipers catch fire).

I am looking at going full MSD. Coil, 6Al, dizzy. Mainly because I can mount the box up under my dash to hide it plus keep it away from the engine bay heat. I've had problem after problem with the Mopar ign setup. Shattered ballast resistor, destroyed 2 dist caps in less than 10 miles each (carbon piece broke out and rotor ate the brass). Did a HEI conversion, fried a $45 ICM, and a brand new MSD blaster decided it wanted to melt and boil off the epoxy.

Price wise, it looks like a great deal. I'm just a little concerned about the CD being in the dizzy and wiring it up with the E-Core style coil.

To answer your other questions ;

To date, the Firecore distributors have been very reliable with several hundred in service for a few years now and the number is climbing rapidly as new customers update and get more run time.  :icon_smile_big:

There are several different options depending on the engine combination and personal preferences. Many are now opting for the Ready to Run unit which has the built in ECU. It's dead simple to wire up, eliminates the ballist resistor and provides a constant 12V power feed for increased spark energy/improved combustion. The Firecore CD ignition coil is designed to accept the 12V power feed and won't burn up like a conventional coil would under those conditions. The low resistance Firecore ignition wires are the final piece of the puzzle. Very durable, double crimped brass terminals and silicone boots that won't crack/split. These are configured specificly for the application ; no cutting/crimping/measuring...just pull them out of the box and install

I've been running the same wireset for over 5 years.  :2thumbs:

The distributors come in 3 flavors ;

(1) Billet plug & play with vacuum advance ; can be used with a mopar style ECU (orange/chrome/revinator) or aftermarket CD box (MSD/Mallory/Crane etc...)

(2) Billet mechanical ; no vacuum advance and requires an external ECU/CD box

(3) Billet ready to run with built in ECU ; as described above.

The main advantages vs MSD ;

-much better pricing
-much easier mechanical advance adjustments with infinate tunability vs the MSD bushing arangement which limits options
-Compact dimensions ; same as stock so it will fit with any aftermarket head/valvecover. MSD often requires grinding on the heads or distributor housing....sometimes both for adequate clearance.
-Stock replacement cap/rotor from any parts house will fit
-Stock replacement pickup will also fit

These distributors use bearings on the shaft support instead of the bushing that mopar used in the past. Timing is rock steady to 8500+ rpm

Thanks for the info. I'm seriously considering the R2R CD setup.
On the precut plug wires. Are they long enough to go over the valve covers? I'm currently running MP finned covers. The last set I got were too short and I can't run the wires around the front of the heads because the location of my alt and electric water pump.

Dino

The wires are plenty long, I just ran my driver's side wires around the front of the valve cover and around the back of the A/C compressor and I sill have plenty left to make a turn or two.  Going over the valve covers will not be a problem.
