Picked up old news at an auction....

Last month I went to a local auction and bought a large box of old newspapers/magazines for a few dollars.  This is something that I tell myself never to do (as it takes up valuable space), but I ended up with it anyways.  What caught my eye was that they all involved either JFK, Robert Kennedy or MLK assassinations (and burials), so they were mostly mid to late 1960s.  Well, in the box were complete editions of The Rocky Mountain News (my favorite paper), The Denver Post, Wichita Eagle Beacon, and a few others in very nice condition.  The classified ads sections were a great read with all of the dealers ads!  I wish they would have saved some in the 1969-70 era, but no luck on that end....

Now, what to do with them?  I was thinking of scanning them into a computer and then printing out copies for a display at car show, so younger people could see what was going on back then.  Have any of you guys and gals done this before?  I have started a similar thing with my vintage (1963-1973) car magazines, but I thought average people would like to read the vintage newspapers more...

The Rocky Mtn news. Yeah, that was a good one back in the day. It was easy to read just in the way it opened like a book instead of a massive fold out thing.
I found some old 60's ones in my grandfather's basement in denver. There was one announcing a new NFL team called the Denver Broncos. Too bad that never panned out.   ;)
Some later ones with Viet nam stuff in there etc...

I like looking through old stuff like that too. Not sure how you would go about making it avail for others, can be done, but obviously a lot of work.

Yeah, that is something I am trying to figure out how to do right.  The Rocky Mountain News are just so big that they will not fit on my scanner.  I just may have to buy a wand scanner and resize the scans down, but I would rather not change the size if I can.  If you go too small, it can make it unreadable.  My other option is to laminate the newspapers, but that would be cost prohibitive for whole editions....

Man, I wish The Rocky Mountain News was still up and running.  It was the best newspaper for the $ spent....

there is another idea in there. post things that were happening in the year of your car mounted in a frame. or car adds etc... that can be bill boards at the car show. now i just need to find 1970 adds and happenings. :2thumbs:
