I did some number crunching and looks like I'd be into it for roughly 20k to make it a solid shell, including buying the car (I realize there is always unknowns but it's a " guesstimate"). I don't know if that sounds in the ball park to some who've been there this type of resto is new to me. I have fixed many older vehicles but never to this detail until the 73.

Ghoste

My experience is to take whatever you initially estimate and double it.

Pat1973charger

That's not including any interior, drivetrain anything just metal replacement.

Thats with you doing most of the metal work & body work yourself, right. Who's going to paint it? LEON.

I don't think anyone can fault you for that.  :icon_smile_big:

I can, Everybody knows the 1970 Charger is BEST ;D :nana:

Pat1973charger

Father in law is a licenced body man and has his own shop in his back yard for side projects, works out well I pay for materials.

nvrbdn

that works out pretty good for you.

yes, this will be a large task for this car with a big price.   one thing you have to figure is that any car you purchase will have to have alot of the same metal replaced as this one. i have seen 5,000.00 cars that every panel had to be replaced, including the roof. the biggest difference was that they obtained a large amount of interior parts.

i for one would like to see a determined person get a car like this and save it. just understand that it will take deep pockets to save her. you never know, there may just be enough people on here watching a build like this that may donate a part or two out of their stash to help it along.

"It needs to be completely re skinned and rails, i have all of the floor pans, two doors, a ready to go sand blasted hood, taillights, gas cover door (rare) and a shit ton of chrome mouldings" that's an email he sent me on what he has, plus the coronet goes with it.

Ghoste

The gas cover door is rare?

Pat1973charger

According to him, I thought it was kinda funny too.

I wondered that too when first reading it. I will skip that he called it a "door". ;D  Now I am thinking that perhaps he meant it is rare for it to be still on a car that has been stripped of many parts already, I can see that. We know they are not rare in the sense that every Charger had one, there are often for sale used and are reproduced. On a side note though, I have not yet seen a reproduction that is correct in the brushed area of the cap.

Ghoste

Fair enough, yes that could be his meaning.

Pat1973charger

You got me I have no idea what to look for as far as inferior reproduction parts, I am seeing a lot of people saying amd over goodmark. I'm glad I found this site so I can dip in the knowledge bank of you guys when I need to. 😄

:iagree:

The only thing here that gives me pause is that I seem to remember these same pictures from a while back. It might not look even as good as these shots. But one glance over the parts and pieces section of Ebay will convince this will not be a  waste of money on just the parts value alone.

Pat1973charger

I know there is enough there I wouldn't loose money but do I sink 2k into it if I'm not going to restore it or just hold out and keep saving for something better. I'm not going to jump on it it's been there awhile now I doubt it will go anytime soon.

Pat1973charger

So I am seriously considering this car now, we have a new supplier at work I can order body panels through wholesale and no freight so that helps. He is also still willing to give it to me for $2000 with all the new floors, two good doors and a mint hood, some interior and two grills (both need work) plus the coronet parts car. Only catch is wife says the 73 has to go, which means I have to finish installing the firewall and front inner fenders to move it out of my garage to sell it also to get back what I have into it I'll have to let the engine and trans go with it. Engine not a big deal was a 400 4bbl, but the big block bellhousing 727 I considered keeping.

This is obviously the car you want and has an affordable buy in.

Sounds like the 73 still needs a lot of work- sell it and put that effort into the 69.

How pissed are you going to be when you go to buy it and it's gone? Jump on it.

2k is nothing for one of these cars.

nvrbdn

you have played with the thinking long enough. go get it. :2thumbs:

Probably next weekend I will go if he still has it and then concentrate on selling the 73 once the 69 is in my hands.

charger_fan_4ever

Bringing a car back from the dead like this one is a big task. If its a $2k car you'd be better to find an r/t in similar condition for 3-4k as both cars require the same $$ to restore but the r/t will bring probably 8-10k more. When i was doing the math before i bought my 70 r/t doin a full blown restore on a 318/383 car just didn't seem worth it unless it had some sentimental value ect.
:Twocents:

Mine needed everything but rails and as it sits i have $18k in the unibody with all metal work done AMD poster car #2.

I live in quebec and prices are of course crazy. Bought it in the U.S back in 09.

Pat1973charger

I have already planned in well over the 10k in metal needed, it does come with new floors. How wide is the car minus the mirrors?

hemi-hampton

Go for it, You know you want it. LEON.

Pat1973charger

Pretty sure I'm going to just waiting to hear back from him, wondering if someone can tell me how wide the car is minus the mirrors. Trying to seen if it'll fit on trailer.
