I'd think that the sheetmetal stuff, large body panels, frame rails and so will not be as much a problem than all the smaller parts that one does not even know should exist, and how they should be installed, when one does not have expertise from previously building and repairing these. And likely much of that stuff is not found reproduced but must be hunted for. However I'd quess the resale value will rise soon when even some of the work will be done.

I'd be sure to check however that the titling/vin issues are absolutely clear, before purchase..

(Google tells that a 1969 Charger width is 76.6 inches and car widths should typically be specified without mirrors from what I find. And the way the mirrors are mounted they probably would not add much?)

I dont know about the Coronet parts car but if its kinda usable you might be able to cut a frame rail out of it for use on the Charger...

And about the 73. consider fixing it up to a munimum so you can sell if driveable. It "might" bring more money then so you get a better start with the 69.

If you know your skill level and are up to the task and not the least, equipped for the job then go for it. It's nice to own one of these, and it even cooler to show people pictuers of car that was considered gone after you restored it.

One thing I already learned is that not only money is a big factor, Time also is. When you have very little to spare on a project like that things go very slow and that can demotivate you also. i saw cars waaaay worse than mine get restored in 1 year but the guys pushed it hard.

Another + is if you literally strip this one down totally and build it up from scratch with paint and epoxy primer in every spot you know you will end up with a car thas is in better shape then the most Chargers that left the factory over 40 years ago.

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

Thanks for the replies guys, I am messaging him again tonight as he had a perspective buyer today and if it's still there planning a road trip Saturday. I wasn't sure I that 76.6 on google was mirror to mirror or just the body width, I have use of a 80" wide trailer but seems like if that's the body it's cutting it close.

nvrbdn

so you have an enclosed trailer to use?

Pat1973charger

Not enclosed but it has two foot high sides on it.

nvrbdn

i see. with high sides, you will definately have to do the dukes thing in getting in and out of the car.

Have to have my tregectory just right loading it with only 3.5" in total clearance on the side.

SO, Did this other Perspective Buyer Buy it :scratchchin: :shruggy:

Pat1973charger

Nope I guess the guy who owns it father is a body man and te other buyer would only buy it if he'd restore it, which is the whole reason they are selling, because he doesn't want to. I asked him of the vin on papers match the car he says " I'm pretty sure" not enough confidence for me to drive 6 hours. I asked him to verify, there's one on the dash frame, upper rad support and trunk gutter right?

70 sublime

Yes the 3 places for the VIN

If the car is really rusty the one one the trunk lip might be hard to see

There's nothin AMD and Miller cant fix
Real race cars have three pedals......

if the title matches the vin in the window, and the vin in the window has original mounting, id get the car. i cant see that too many people would buy a vin tag and title to install on a rusted out car so they can sell for 2K. :shruggy:

people that do that are either trying to get a title for a nice car, or upgrading a base model car to a more desireable model.

Oh yeah know what your saying completly, I'm not worried about what model the car is or how it was optioned, I just want to make sure that when he bought it a few years ago that someone hadn't switched the dashes out or somehow he ends up with a title that doesn't match a vin on the window. If those match then hopefully tomrorow night or Sunday morning you'll see pics of the rusted hulk in my yard. I am a bit Leary on being 6hr away from home with my wife being only a couple weeks from due date of our first child.

Those pictures are a bit more revealing that the others. You might want to look at this thread to see what you are possibly up against. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,104414.0.html
Looking at those "C" posts they are rusted through to the under structure. While AMD makes all the outer skins you will find it a bit more difficult to get the roof support structures that from these photos look to be seriously compromised. If the "C" posts which are pretty high up on the car are in this bad shape it makes me wonder what could be left of the rest of the unibody. You may need more than just rockers from the Coronet. That is assuming it is in better shape. I have a feeling this is going to be just a parts car in the end. :rotz:

Pat1973charger

We will see I guess there's not much to choose from around here. I saw mopar4don's thread, it is inspiring and actually to me that looks like fun, I have already has to do that kind of stuff on the 73 as damn near nothing is avaliable for the hinge/ a piller/ firewall area, put a firewall in out of a challenger and modified the top lip for the windshield.

Sounds like you are determined and that is what it is going to take. If you get the car good luck. I will be watching with interest. :popcrn: :popcrn:

It would be cool to see it come back from the dead considering where it's at now. Who knows maybe it'll end up a parts car, the new parts alone are probabaly worth what I'm getting it for. I know everyone says amd on here but I have easy access to goodmark parts I can order through work with no shipping. What's people's opinions on at least using the goodmark structure pieces, such as frame rails, rockers etc and maybe AMD quarters and stuff?

Charger-Bodie

I've used both and amd would be my first choice. The Goodmark structure stuff is just fine though. Floors are too, they are somewhat lighter, but its not huge. Exterior panels I would go amd hands down.

Spo when are you picking it up :scratchchin: LEON.

Pat1973charger

It's mine :-\ mixed emotions it's really bad but the value is there in parts so I couldn't loose. Coronet is definatly worth taking.  On way home now.

so does this mean a second trip for the second car?
