I know that the K56 cam is highly recommended by many on this site and I know to stay away from Hughes but what about Crower.  specifically the 32243 with 228 duration @.050 and .479 lift and 236 duration @.050 duration and .501 lift on exhaust, with a 112 centerline.

Just curious if anyone has used this cam or used Crower in general.  I really appreciate all the help everyone has given me on this board on all my questions.  Also - should I use a stock converter.  This would be for a weekend cruiser and some daily driving.

Thanks

Lee, I had that cam (HDP 282) in my old engine and really liked it. Made lots of vacuum for power brakes and it idled real well. I like the split pattern Crower grinds, especially with factory heads that don't flow that great on the exhaust side unless they're ported.  ;)

I ran this cam with a 2500 stall and 3.55's but if you're looking at using the factory converter and 3.23's the next smaller grind (HDP 271) would be a better choice.  :yesnod: Both cams are ground on a wide 112* lsa which makes tuning the engine a joy.  :icon_smile_cool:

Flashley18, take a look at this post and read up on the links I posted, good info: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,6049.msg70424.html#msg70424

Crower has good stuff , the grind looks decent , I found Engles work great so I have stuck with them & not used Crowers

Thanks for the information.  Good to know that they are both good cams.  I think I may go with Engle since that seems to be what more people use.

Both are good choices....you can't go wrong with either of them.  ;D

flashley18, you mentioned about staying away from hughes, why? I never used them was just curious.

Hughes used to buy their cams from Engle and just put the Hughes name on them.  Since they stopped doing that, they seem to be held in less regard than they once were.  I'm not implying that the quality of their product suffered because I have never heard anything like that.  I think the quality of their customer rapport (or lack of) has more to do with it.  They don't suffer questions well unless you are a racing engineer.

Engle will also warranty a cam & help you where hughes will not
customer service is the big difference for sure

flashley18

I had read several threads on this board that related to issues with Hughes.  A lot was customer support but I also seem to remember some poor quality comments as well.  I have not had any experience myself I am only taking the comments I have read on the board on making my own observations.

Engle seems to be used more often or suggested on a more regular basis.

:iagree:

The Crower 271HDP is a proven favorite among guys with 440's running the factory heads and exhaust manifolds.  The 440 Six Pack owners who wanted more cam, but wanted to keep the look of the factory exhaust have had good results.  Would also work great with factory heads and headers for that matter.

On the Hughes subject, my 496 ate a Hughes cam on break-in setting in the drive way.  Sent it back to Hughes, they said no warranty, a race only piece according to them.  No more Hughes for me.  Have read many threads on the various  Mopar chat boards on Hughes poor customer service, and their flat cam lobes.  Don't bring the subject up on Moparts.com.
