Old Mopar Dude

Yesterday while scouting a couple yard sales in the area we decided to pop into this new retirement community. Not a big one, maybe 30-40 homes. We stopped at the first one and decided to walk to the rest. While strolling down the sidewalk I look across the street and see 4 tires and rims. The top one was leaning against the other three. I told Kim, "Those look like Keystone Klassics." The typical women thing like "so what.".
Anyhow, walked over and took a peak at these H70 15's on good Keystone Klassics rims. I ask the lady what they came off of and she said ask the guy with his feet in the air. I look around the corner in the garage and here is this awesome 69 Road Runner, 440 6 pack, 4 speed, dana rear and air grabber. No frills or thrills as far as options. This old dude is upside down and under the dash wiring in his harness.
We talked briefly, he bought the car new and just wanted power. He showed me a picture from the very early 70's with those Keystones on it. Anyway leap forward a few decades and he changed to 15" rallye wheels. He was tired of moving those old Keystones around so he put in the garage sale. The tires are like new with the snubs very noticeable. They are not cracked or rotted in anyway. He kept them covered.
I ask the most important question, "How much?" Now remember, I don't let my Bobish guard down just because you are old. He said 75 bucks. I look over the set, rub my chin, stick out my hand and say, "I'll give ya 50".
He shook my hand and I had my wheels.
Took them home, a little Brillo scrubbing, some tape, a little rustoleum and done.Total investment $55.00
Now to get them on the Charger since most people hate my chrome wagon/trailer wheels.

Slowpoke

That's a good story, and some good looking wheels as a bonus.

The center caps are pretty rusted so I think I''ll sand and powder coat.

Great story and great deal Bob, they're going to look awesome on your car!

Highbanked Hauler

Wow  Dunlop H-70's  I haven't seen those for a long time, I ran probably 5 sets on various cars back in the 70's. They were OK and As I remember there was nothing outstanding about them.

Those keystones were a cool "upgrade" back in the day....I always liked them and a little different than Cragars.

Why talk him down $75 was a good price.

some people are born to "haggle" I'm guilty too...
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

Ghoste

There's the other side too, I'm the kind of guy that if I have it a cheap price already and you offer me less just because you live for the haggle I'm just going to say forget it and close the door on you.

I'm not going to use them. After 4 decades the tires still looked new.

He was just throwing out a number and just wanted them gone. Had he said no I still would have got them. Paying full price at a yard is like re-marrying after a nasty divorce.

It make take awhile to find the house again since it is a community of "like houses", but I'll give it a shot.
