I am changing the heads on a 1970 plymouth duster slant 6 225 motor. Just taking the good head from one motor and installing it on a motor with a good bottom end. I do not think I need new head bolts to do this, but not sure. My old Chilton book calls for 70 lb torque on them, and gives me the removal / tightening sequence....anybody know if those bolts need changed, or if I will need anything other than a new head gasket. I just want to make this car run for a while for my Son
...eventually He will put a V-8 into it, but for now, the 6 popper done as cheap as possible will be Ok. Thanks!

Well, for what it's worth; I've done it on slants plenty of times without using new bolts and never had an issue.

I have done many rebuild jobs in the past and didn't use new head bolts. If there is an obvious defect in the bolts, then yes buy new or good used ones. The only time I have used new, was when I built high dollar high performance motors. Use what you have and save the money for something else. I think most will agree.

The stretching head bolt is a 90's thing, could be 80's. Only time I have used new bolts is either when I went with ARP bolts or head studs for the Blower Motor.

Thanks for the help! I hope this gets my Son's car back on the road! I will use those bolts and get "r"" done!
