Fun read... I just picked up a 1988 GT t-top car for mostly the same reasons as OP

needs a bunch of stuff, (ie motor and trans) has a set of monkey bars, tubular front end and some other go fast goodies

I am pricing what it cost to put together vs my '68 Charger and wowsers...

Indygenerallee

Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

So I've seen a couple disappointments.

Last one was in Ottawa.  Thankfully I was already up there to look at something else.  Obviously a project he had enough of.  Didn't even wash the damn thing.  Like at least run it thru the car wash.

Had a quick white paint job.  When I say quick I mean the wiper arms were painted and the plastic cowl as well.  I took it for a drive.  Nothing like driving in the big city where you can't get a car into fourth gear.  Pretty quick test as well.  Goofy looking instrument cluster, with loose dash around it.  Odometer didn't look tampered with, but all the same it was goofy.  Minor detail really.

Bondo in the hood...............not sanded the finest, starting to discolor like rust.  Couple spots like that.  I won't make an offer.

Thinking of looking at this one next time I go visit my sister.  Any advice on what to look for and ask about a 4 cylinder converted to an 8?

My parents live in that area if you wanted to see the Thunderbird as well  :Twocents:

**EDIT: Not pushing the car on you.  Just sayin if you wanted to talk cars while you were in town.  Plus, the Thunderbird is a pretty fun whip around the block.  :2thumbs:

\/ Also, that car was originally a 4cyl, so I can show you what to look for...

Ok guys.  I was going to let this subject go, but the kid with this car is wanting me to come look.  What do you think?  What's going on under the hood.  That intake isn't stock.

Slowpoke

The intake looks like the ford performance gt40 intake, its a good upgrade for the 5.0, especially if he got the matching cam.

I will go back to what I probably said earlier, which is,  buy the best, most unmessed with car you can find.   Pay a little more up front and get a better car right out of the gate.

The aftermarket hood and all that blue crap in the engine bay screams "run away" to me.

Bobs69

By the way 68sixspeed that's a good looking car.  Id imagine those rims are tuff to keep looking good.

As for getting the best unmolested car possible, I agree.  I'm also looking or a cheap thrill.  I know, cheap could lead to disappointment.  The aftermarket hood, I agree is shit.  The blue stuff under the hood.................could be hiding a wiring nightmare.  Front of the engine looks good............ new pulleys and brakets?

16' BBS RS style Enkei rims.  I got them with the car, way back in 2006.  They're a little work(gotta get in and scrub with a cloth), but no where near the maintenance a set of wire wheels(Dayton's).  Drove it for the first time since July over the weekend.  Might put it on Kijiji again in a month or so, or I might just keep it till the Charger is done :shruggy:.

Any other Stangs catch your eye?  It's crazy that we've reached the age where we're able to find half finished project/ basket case fox bodies online.  I remember when a good stock car was 3000$ at the high end.  What will that get you now?  A decent 4/6 banger car?

Originally I said I wanted V8 5speed, AC convertible.  Leather.  No compromising.  Leather may not be a deal breaker.  I said I'd wait and find the right one.  My wife is holding me to my original criteria and we have agreed $6000 is the top.  I was surprised that it has proven this hard.

I've been watching the same cars all summer.  They don't sell, and some are starting to become motivated.

I low balled this guy, he wanted $9500 I think................. I said I'd give him $6000.  No go.  He told me to make another offer and I said I wouldn't insult him again.

Well the car is still for sale.  And he wanted another offer.  Summer is over, the mood is gone, I did raise to $7000.   He said $7900 and I just didn't answer.  Now he wants me to call and come see him.  It looks like what I've been waiting for.  Can I convince the wife?  If I really wanted too.'

I'm also in the middle of interviewing for a different jobs.  It would require me to go back to school unpaid for a period of time.  The timing may not be right....................  Here is is.

I don't remember if this car has AC, I can't see a pump.  I also forgot that it is an American car.  So the mileage can not be verified.  It's clean, very clean.

6spd68

Yellow though ...  It's not a Viper/Ferrari, or even a Corvette.  Personally, I'd have to paint the car.  I still say 6K is reasonable for it.  :Twocents:

If you like the yellow though, go for it  :2thumbs:

EDIT***  I guess my biggest gripe with it, is that they painted the trim/bumper stripes along with the car.  It would probably look better if those were black again, to match the top.

Fox's are a rare, dying breed, especially ones that don't look like they've beeen 'modded or hammered to s**t.  I agree that the yellow car has some........"unfavorable" 'mods done IMO, but it looks clean and solid, which is more than most can hope for in this day and age.  Go for it, if you like it...

Drove my fox a bunch last night...  Too many cops out to really have fun though...

I looked at that one.  Took a mechanic buddy with me.  Yeah it sounds great in the description but it's junk once you see it.  Can't document the engine build.  I didn't even make an offer.  No plates on it, couldn't drive it.

Junk?  Wow it looks good in the pictures...

Bobs69

Paint job is not professional.  Very obviously amateur.  You could see sand marks in the paint.

It had some holes in the trunk by the shock towers.

He had a lot of good parts, but this was a project gone bad and he had just had enough of that.

maybe the word junk as a little harsh but my buddy grab ahold of the roll bar on the inside and it was lose the guy didn't even bother to tighten things up

That's unfortunate, so it was just like that other blue one with the 347 then?  That's a bummer!

Lashed my valves, tuned my carb, and swapped out my ignition switch/cylinder this weekend.  Even if the car wont sell, it's still one of the funnest I've ever driven...

Best of luck on your continued quest.     If I see anything else, will post it here too.

Update:  I hit a moose with my Accord coupe, I replaced it with a 2005 Mustang GT 5 speed with 45 000km.

I love my 03 GT. Its a street/strip car that runs low 12s/high 11s that still has A/C, full interior, etc that I drive 600+ miles one way to Myrtle Beach. Its a fun car to beat around in, take to car shows, and not have to worry about as much as the Charger. However, the Charger is still #1 in my book

1968 Charger R/T, matching numbers 440/727, black with green top and interior, currently getting restored by me
