Whats the best handling width,diameter,tire size for a 73 400 Charger?

Ok I finally went to the shop and test drove my 73 400-4bbl Charger they've been fooling with since last July. It was pretty bad when I brought it in there. But when I drove it today even with the intake manifold leaking it drove so much better and still had a lot of power. They had an alignment specialist do the alignment and they replaced my warranty leaking reman steering box. So the alignment is good now but it's got a lot of oversteer when you turn with the skinny 215/75/14 tires. They said I definitely will need some bigger wheels and tires. I have the 14x6 steelies from the junkyard on there now. They're installing my new Weiand intake and fel-pro gaskets and it should be ready to drive home. I planned on driving it home since it's been there forever but I wanted them to finish it up.  I was going to get the Wheel Vintques 15x7 or 15x8 Magnums. Will those be substantial enough for a stock big block Charger? Only add ons are the weiand intake and edelbrock 650 carb.

You'll be able to get a better tire selection in 15 wheel sizes. 15x7 with 255/60/15 all around are good size that will allow you full tire rotation (unless you want to stagger sizes front to back).

The performance tire industry is barely still supporting 15" rims these days, let alone 14" ones.

All the more reason to buy 15" tires/wheels. Resist the 18-20" pimp inside.

I was told the best option is 15x7 in the front and 15x8 in the rear. So the rear end will have more control in the turns. But I'm not going to be road racing this car anyway. It does have urethane bushing suspension and all new front end parts as well as new rear springs and shocks. I also added factory front and rear sway bars. I was going to go with the 15x8 Magnum's from Wheel Vintques or the American Racing Wheel 15x7 Vectors. It looks like tire rack is suggessting a 215/65/15 tire with that. Is that good?

Those are the wheel sizes I run on my 69 with 245/60 & 275/60's respectively. When it's time to replace the rear rubber I'll mount 295/50's on 15x10.

Word to the wise........ DONT buy anything from Wheel vintiques.......especially mag 500's. They are crap.
Shop speciality wheels or look in the group buy section here for other sources.

Everyone likes BFG rubber.....me too. When I bought my wheels and tires in 2010 I bought Firestone Indy 500's.
I like them so far.

With all the work you've done to the front end etc, your car will be a sweet tight driver.

This is terrible advice. That tire size isnt even recommended for an 8" rim by some manufacturers as it is too skinny for the wheel.
Some good tire advice size is already posted here. There are other options too if you want to go with 65 or 70 series tires.

I heard one story about the Magnums from Wheel Vintques saying the chrome finish on them was not very thick and started to rust quick. I don't know how where other's are getting their Magnums from unless they have the originals. I was between those and the Vector's. But if I ever get to the body and painting stage I wanted to add the reflective Rallye stripe since I've already got the bulge hood. And my factory color is GK6 which is what I want to have it repainted in, no vinyl top. So I want it to look ok. What about the wheel vintques Rallye wheels? I considered those because Mopars always look good with them but then you've got to buy the trim rings and caps. The shop that I was going to get the wheel and tire package from suggessted a 235/60/15 with the 15 inch wheels.

My distain for Wheel Vintiques arises from my purchase of mag 500's from them. I had them on my car for
barely 2 months when I discovered the black shadow paint between the "spokes" flaking off on all 4 wheels.
I contacted them about this and their response was to send me an unlabeled partially used rattle can of black
paint!

I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.

Specialty Wheels is a very reputable source for wheels. Many members have bought from them without
complaint.

235/60 15's will look great mounted on 15x7 wheels. They would look fine at all four corners too but, for me,
I like wider rubber/wheels on the rear end. Just my opinions here.
