I have a set of heads I machined last year in eingine class. This year in class i find myself having some spare time, so i was going to tear down the heads I put together last year, because they have gotten kind of rusty sitting on a shelf in the garage. I'm thinking I'll cook them agian and then assemble them. how should I store them, because it won't be til some time this summer I put them on the charger.. or if I get a 440 it might be longer before I use them.

A nice synthetic grease should be fine, something you would pack wheel bearing with.

Dick Landy himself recommend the following storage treatment method to me. He told me to use a spray bottle with automatic transmission fluid in it, and spray down all the surfaces. He said that trans fluid will flow into even the most microscopic pores, and displace all the moisture. it doesn't evaporate, and is easy to clean off when you want to use the part(s).

I have used this method for many years with flawless results.

I have another option... differential fluid is very heavy and will stuck allong the time and REALLY EATS the rust... tranny fluid will end flowing with time and gravity. I have several engine and car bolts from donor cars storaged on it on bottles.
