ok never done this before, but just wanted to check on what all will need to be done after a rebuild, before and just after starting the engine.  My setup is a 383 bored 60 over single plane intake with 600cfm edelbrock carb (which will be changed after initial breakin, to a 750-800 after I choose a brand) I have forged pistons with an estimated compression ration between 9:25:1 and 9:5:1, headers, and the cam specs are:
233/240 duration at 50 lobe seperation is 110 specs are for 106 degree centerline
valve timing at.006 is  open   close
intake                        34     66
exhaust                     78     30

what type of spark plugs should I use not which brand but will stock plugs be ok?
and will I need to turn the water pump to essentially prime the cooling system?
and how long to prime oil pump.
You can speak to me like i'm five because I would appreciate alot of detail.

i am guessing somewhere areound 15 degrees from the other posts ive read

RD

instead of priming the cooling system, just jack up the front end of the car, that will cause any bubble to flow towards the radiator.

stock plugs will be fine.

when priming the oil pump, turn the pump counter-clockwise while rotating your crank shaft at least for 2-4 revolutions.

overall timing on a b engine should be between 36-38 degrees.  B engines like more advance than RB's.  That is total advance.

Advice... when breaking in a new motor.. don't be too nice to it.  You have to set those rings good and get that cam broke in properly.  15-20 minutes at 2500 rpms should do it.  Never start a new trans or rebuilt trans in park, start it in neutral.  hope that helps and hope that others will chime in.

around 15* at idle should work well but if you are breaking in the cam you will be at 2000 rpm so total adavce is more critical until the cam is broken in them you can work the timin gcurve for 14* at idle or more & still have 36-38 total at 3000 rpm
