As usual, the book is 10 times better to read, than the Hollywood movie.
Still a great movie, but 80 percent of it was wrong.
For any other Military types/Warriors out there, read it.

I read the paperback when it was released. I suspect these guys' hike way outside the wire on that mission is just one of many many others undertaken by the teams over the decades that very few will ever know about. The British SAS before them......way back in the day. All these guys....Rangers, Para-rescue jumpers, first in FAC's, Berets and Seals are the best of the best. God blessed them all. Pointy end of the stick is a mild description of these dudes.

Reading the first third of the book about the physical rigors Luttrell et al had to accomplish BEFORE they even began training to do what Seals do was exhausting in and of itself.

You may already know this story but when Luttrell got back home to Texas he was given a dog as part of his recovery. He named the dog Dasy, each letter for the names of his dead team mates. Some yahoos shot and killed the dog and Luttrell chased them through 3 counties before the Texas State Troopers caught up to him and "pulled him back". The jokers were caught and tried. Luttrell testified at their trail afterwards saying he "still angry about it"...........Those boys are lucky they're in jail.

Yes, I know about his dog "dasey" that was killed. What a kick in the nuts.  Dumb ass punks should be hanged.

BTW, did you know most seals were too afraid of Marine Corps Boot Camp, so they joined up to be a sailor instead.  :scratchchin:

OK......here we go.  :smilielol:

The Corps final boot camp challenge, The Crucible, is indeed a hella formidable set of tasks. If you make it through that you're pretty much ready for whatever they throw at you.

Now ya wanna talk about the Marine Corps bib?

According to Marcus the movie was very close as he was on set daily to make sure.  He said there where just a couple instances where the director added creative touches.

I believe Marcus is going on tour this spring doing several speaking engagements. He is worth seeing if he is close to your city.

I read it when it first came out, and would definitely recommend the book to anyone!
For the movie, they drastically shortened the training at the beginning, and also shortened & changed a bunch of it toward the end. But overall, I think the majority of the movie did stay with the book. It was cool to see Marcus in a couple scenes, too.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Yes, he was in the movie as a "extra". No, we never saw him spoke.  The movie was maybe "50 percent correct" and that was okay with Marcus.  His story was out there and his friends would be remembered.

Very much liked the book.

If the movie is about 50% correct, I'll pass and stay with the book. Hollywood just doesn't impress me much anymore.......they just can't seem to get the essence of a story. Always overdo it with over the top special effects and acting. Gotta be in your face and no subtlety. I'll stay with a good book.

Or come here and  :drool5: over Chargers.

I didn't know Luttrell was an extra in the flick. I'll have to watch it again on BluRay.

To make the movie according to the book we are looking at 12 hours of film.  Anyone ever read "band of brothers".  They made that series 100 percent correct and it took 12 hours.

Interesting......"Band of brothers" is one of the few instances where I have seen it, but not read the book. The series was very good.

It's more an observation that I am mostly disappointed with a movie after reading the book. Am sure part of it is, I have it set in my own mind, and seeing it thru someone else's vision.......doesn't seem to work all that well. Add all the enhanced explosions/special affects that seems a requirement now[may not apply to this movie].....I'll stay with a book.

The 12-hour thing is true.  In most cases you just can't put a decent-length book into a movie without severely chopping it down.  Even when they take a successful movie and then write a novelization of it after-the-fact, the book will either come out very short or they will have to add a bunch of new stuff.

Leaving things out (when going from book-to-movie) causes problems that have to be fixed during what's left.  When you don't see a character act a certain way in a scene that gets cut, then they might try to add back that side of him in a different scene to reduce the damage.  Etc.  Even if you decide to cut something down for length and keep all the remaining stuff exactly as it was, it still won't feel quite the same to anyone who hasn't already read the book too.

Books & movies are just two different mediums.  Lots of great books get made into crappy movies, but there are also some great movies that weren't half as good in book form.

Hmmmm will look at getting the book out to read ...thanks
