84-year old Billy Standley of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, who recently died of lung cancer, was buried riding atop his 1967 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, attired in full riding gear, encased in a coffin made of wood and plexiglass. According to his family, he'd been making these arrangements for the better part of two decades.

It was a funeral he started planning 18 years ago, well before he could have known about the lung cancer that killed him on Sunday at age 84. "This was his dream," said one of his daughters, Dorothy Brown. "He was a one-of-a-kind." – Columbus Dispatch

As a person who loathes "garbage wagons" I'd say that's a fitting end for the Harley.  :smilielol:
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I won't be wronged, I wont be Insulted and I wont be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to others, and I require the same from them.

I always here people say "I'm not leaving my (insert vehicle/motorcycle) to anyone. I'm gonna be buried in it."

 to the guy who actually followed through on that promise.  :2thumbs:

Just another one of us that's afraid to become something that's beyond our Earthly possessions and knowledge.

"The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of your life; your memories, your attachments. They burn 'em all away. But they're not punishing you....They're freeing your soul.  If you're frightened of dying and holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth..."  -Louis, Jacob's Ladder 1990

You have to know when to let go, but for some I guess it just isn't possible; I don't think it will be for me, so burn in Hell I will...

It seems to me if he really loved his bike and was considerate of sharing his joy with fellow beings, he would have come to the conclusion to pass it on to a deserving soul to care for it.

Once they had him in the ground, they should have filled the "coffin" with cosmoline.

What the pictures don't show is the massive concrete tomb that was placed inside the hole that the "coffin" was then lowered into. The tomb protects the coffin against the elements, weight of the dirt, and anyone who thinks they can dig up a free Harley  :nana:

Yea, I was wondering about how they got away from the EPA rules about burial procedures.

Exactly! What a waste of a bike, even though it's not my favorite one. I'd rather have a V Rod.

The real question is did he make a pact with Satan years ago (the eighteen years ago he started planning this) So that he can emerge from his grave on his Harley every night and go riding only to go tell people the dangers of smoking and the effects of lung cancer!???
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Kind of a repeat. I remember years ago watching the news, when they had the funeral for some guy--Willy the Wimp--- and of course they had a brief exert of the funeral precession. Went , in his Cadillac, dressed to the nines. They ran him up to the grave yard on a flat bed I believe. I remember thinking then, strangest thing I ever saw, dead man driving by,---- that was just off side.

twodko

It is cool and kinda creepy. 4Cruzin offers an ageless question too.

I think its righteous to go out the way he wanted.

Jay Leno talked bout this on show Tonight an showed a picture of old guy on bike. Then cuts to a snowy graveyard and says 10 minutes later,, then a little video of Jay with a shovel starting to dig up the bike. i got a good laugh out of it.

he could of given the bike for auction to raise cancer funds or done lots of good things to save the neat old bike . But no take it with you and destroy it in the ground. will probably fill with water in spring an ruin that bike.

yet all those idiots are helpping destroy it to please some dead guys crazy idea??? total waste ,Moran...DJ  :flame: :brickwall: :RantExplode:
