Why Are 70's Considered Lesser Than 68/69's ?

When I went looking for my first, I was set on buying a '69. I passed on several 68 and 70 Chargers waiting for the right 69 to come around.

The 70 Charger is not the only good looking car with a clown mouth.

Ghoste

Some poor looking Maserati grilles from that same period as well imo.

hawkeye

Any of the 2nd gen chargers are stunning when done up correctly, after that it is just nit-picking.

All 3 years of the second gen were gorgeous, I just happened to find a '70 near me and at the right price. As I looked at the car the combination of interior, tail panel, and the wide-open front grill just struck me and I was sold on it.  Now, if it were between a '70 and a '68 that would have been a little more difficult but I think with the interior I still would prefer a '70.  :Twocents:

70 model always appealed to me ,it got all the good stuff that was to come with the 3rd gen( colours/interior , spoilers/scoops  pistol grip  6pac the list goes on. they just refined the 2nd gen as far as they could go  :icon_smile_big: enter the 3rd gen   :coolgleamA:

They aren't in my book.  I'll admit the R/T door scoops and the "chrome labia" around the grill are kinda weird IMO, but a 2nd Gen is a 2nd Gen is a 2nd Gen is a 2nd Gen; and 2nd Gens are perfect cars   :yesnod:...

Depends on what you mean by "lesser". They had more available options (including the Six Pack!) if you're into that sort of thing. I don't particularly care for the looks - but I'm also not the biggest fan of the 69 model either. I'm very picky! The sales were much less than the previous 2 years so, technically, they are rarer. It all comes down to personal preference and what each person values the most.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I actually love 70's with painted front bumpers and blacked out grilles  :drool5:

I only consider what I like - and I like them all....all for similar and different reasons.

I would take a 70 over a 68/69 any day. Nothing wrong with a 68 or 69, but they look "old" beside a 70. They are just great looking cars.

I am not very fond of the door scoops on my 70 R/T S.E. & would much prefer it without them but since it came with them they will stay one this car. I love how the quarters & body lines flow into the door indentions.

I guess the same can be said about the Road Runners also. The 70s had all the latest and best interiors, drivelines, wheel and tire packages, etc., but the 70's (I own a '70) seem (in my opinion) to be less attractive and desireable. :Twocents:

Yes, because there're so many differences between the three.  It's almost as if the Germans and the Japanese built a time machine, came from the future, went back in time to the 60's and built the '70 instead of Chrysler 'Corp.

No offense, but that's RIDICULOUS.  If your car had been crapped on by a bird while it was at the factory would you keep the bird poop on there because it happened at the factory?  C'mon man, if you don't like something CHANGE it; no one will think less of you, I PROMISE.

If that is true then more power to the '70 guys; they can live their lives in peace with one of the greatest looking cars ever designed while everyone fawns and fumbles all over the other two years that are the same damn car anyway...

In most cases I would agree with you but my red car is loaded to the gills with ever factory available option except the sunroof, so in this case the scoops remain on the car. They have grown on me. Been on their since new. Not going to change them now. All of my other Chargers do not get the scoops though.

...love the 2nd gen Chargers.....we all do.   :2thumbs:

Strickly speaking of the front bumpers, if I had to do a wrap around....it would be the '71 RR/GTX.

Good lookin' RR!   :2thumbs:

I always thought one of the biggest reason's for lower # was due to the new Challenger coming out & the all new body style for the Barracuda?

Don't you find the butt-crack grill on a 69 to be disconcerting?  Or is it gap-toothed?

yeah look good on a 71 roadrunner /GTX   :coolgleamA: :2thumbs:   but loop bumper    don't suit the 70 charger as well  though imo
although , maybe if  the second generation  charger was only  a 70 & did not know any different , who knows

Hard Charger

my 68 is a raw cutting edge design, a 70 is smooth and refined.

lets be thankful for both design.
