jack your car from the diff remove back wheels and measure backspace from brake drum to both sides of wheel well. On my 70 charger I found the rear axle on left side to be half an inch shorter. I put a 10 inch rim on the left with 5 inch backspace and 5.5 backspace on the right hand side and both wheels have same clearance on both sides now. I am not saying this is the correct thing to do as some people do not agree with me. Something for you to consider. A 10 inch rim with a 275 or 295 tyre is very tight. A 5.5 backspace on the left will result in the tyre rubbing on the inside and a 5  inch backspace on the right is just a bit too far out and does not look as good. I am talking about steel two piece rims where you can alter the backspace. If buying one piece alloy you probably do not have much choice and I would definitely go for the 5.5 backspace.

trible66

does this mean that my 5" backspace is the wrong size???

No it will be ok it is perfect for the left side. just wont look as good on the right side and depending on size of your tyre it might rub when going around a corner my car has the inner lip of the wheel well bent in. Careful bending this lip as you may do damage. look carefully at both sides of your car you should notice the right side sits slightly further out. nothing to worry about.

15x10 with 5" of backspace here, and I am happy.  Wheel-well moldings and 1" lowering blocks, and still no rubbing issues unless I'm carrying 2 adult/heavy passengers in the back.  Even then it is infrequent and minor.  I also like the look of a slightly wider stance with the rubber closer to the lip, rather than tucked into the well.

I will check our backspacing tomorrow. We have a 325/50R15 on the back, but not sure on the spacing. We need to find out though because we are looking at new rims so we can fit a 6 piston caliper on the fronts at least.
