Hi everyone I am replacing the Dutchman panel and rear window channel but this is probably a stupid.question.what is the plenum for?? and do I really need it? :shruggy:

Ghoste

I`ve wondered that myself.

As far as I know, it's just there to strengthen the Dutchman panel.  I wouldn't remove it, but that's just me.  It might cause the trunk to leak more.

Ghoste

For sure don`t take it out, they put it in there for some reason or other.

Tea mine is shot! Already bought a new one to replace.but just wasnt sure if I needed to.I will surely replace with new thx!

AFAIK, like the others have said it is there to support the dutchman and I would DEFINITELY NOT remove it and leave it out. Also, make sure to put some flutter foam or similar on the runners that meet the dutchman.

If you have a look at yours , if still in car, the out side edges of plenum support the Dutchman panel, other wise that's a big flat panel to be unsupported, so in short structure that's needed for deck and boot seal area to that panel

Any local body shop/automotive paint supply should have some or you can order online. This is basically what you're looking for and lord fusor and some others make it too.

I`ve never heard of flutter foam before.  Not that I should have or anything.

tsmithae

Flutter foam/flex foam used where two pabels meet that require a more flexible adhesive than seam sealer. It keeps things from denting/dimpling and prevents the body panels from rubbing/rattling. This stuff is used on hoods, roof skins, deck lids, etc.
