Not the right person, but the right reasons behind it.  I would not go out and murder my grill to get a full mesh grill like theirs, but if it was all busted up and couldnt repair it then yeah a full mesh grill for me.

I don't always Bitch and complain, but when i do it's because i built a car in my garage out of old junk, it gets called a hackjob, but if someone builds one on tv, it's a masterpiece, why is that

That's what I'm getting at.  It's only cool when the right person does it.

Sorta like that black 1970-ish Charger custom that Steve Strope did several years ago.  I remember saying if some anonymous builder had done the same creative work without the 426 Hemi and big name, the Mopar press would have crapped on it.

if you want i'll send you a really nice 1969 charger grille emblem and XP emblem, no charge, just send me those window cranks and door pulls

You know, those are still in a box out in the garage!  :smilielol: I know you had got some stuff from another car, but if you do still need any, let me know.

i still need door pulls, and cranks for the rear glass, although without door pull handles i do have a great excuse to climb through the window  :scratchchin:

I wonder how they got the Charger legal.  California is a bitch about titles and smog tests.

Actually, every vehicle built before 1976 is exempt from smog testing.
Regarding titles, you'd be amazed at how easy it is to resurrect a title for a car here.

It's obvious those boys have fun doing the Roadkill episodes, "nice work if you can get it". But I don't care for the way they half-ass their projects, and I'm grateful they're not my next door neighbors!

Things must have changed a lot since I lived there. Late 80's.

Who ever said anything about tearing up a stock grille?  I agree that defies the whole point of fabbing up something from generic materials.

Rob Kinnan's house.

I wouldn't "murder" my grill exactly; however I've always loved the grill of the '68 and this would be an inexpensive way for me to get that "wide open look," as I REFUSE to pay the cost of a '68 grill.  I would just remove my grill, I wouldn't destroy or otherwise discard it...

bull

I didn't pay close enough attention (and I don't really want ro go back and watch it all now), what was holding everything together in the front and latching the hood if the grill frame is gone? Just a valance and no hood latch?

Ghoste

Baldwin, I never called it a masterpiece.   (just so you know it wasn't "everyone") ;)

I love the Roadkill show and this was probably one of my favorite episodes so far. Yes, it's still TV but they actually focus on the cars and working on them. I've learned a ton of little tips and tricks from these shows. The zip-tie plug wire holder is something I had never seen before but that's an awesome 'broken-down-on-the-side-of-the-road' tech tip.

Legal? This is Roadkill we're talking about. I'm not sure anything they do is legal.

That's the point of Roadkill though. Come up with an idea, do the BARE minimum to make it happen and have some fun. They could easily spend ridiculous hours and loads of cubic dollars to build show quality vehicles but then it wouldn't be any different from every other automotive program out there right now. In my eyes, Roadkill is old school, backyard hot-rodding at its finest. No matter how half-assed, they are saving cars from becoming soup cans and hopefully reminding guys like me who have had a project sitting for almost a decade that you can do this without a Chip Foose budget...

The Roadkill '68 had hood pins.

Custom mesh grille or not, it makes way more sense to hold it up using a stock 68/69 metal grille framework piece.  Those grille frames are responsible for all the important functional purposes of the grille assembly and they aren't rare/expensive.

Looked like they just welded the mesh masterpiece directly to the fenders.

Hmm...that's quite the commitment.  I was just hoping to be able to put it in or take it out as I saw fit...

Ghoste

I'm sure you could devise and fabricate a way that works for you.

bill440rt

It didn't appear attention to details like that was a priority.

They just bolted the lights to holes already in the front fenders.  And then you see they welded in a piece of steel across the front, then welded the mesh to that.

Frieberger has a killer '70 'Bee as well.  They drive it from California to SLC on one of the episodes.

That would be the infamous 70 Superbee aka Rumble Bee (named that way before the truck)

Not a bad episode either.

If it were those guys I would have purchased an AMD or used grill frame and a headlight hardware kit with four headlights instead of two and set it up as normal but just omit the plastic. They could have just attached the mesh to the frame. I would also would have bent the mesh into a V so it fit the spot better.

With that in mind, I could just remove the plastic of my grill and replace it with the mesh?
