Drilled brake rotors?

Next year I will need to do some work on my front brakes. Car is a 68 Road Runner but the brakes have been converted to Disc Brakes using Aspen brake parts.

While I was looking around on line I saw there where drilled rotors available.  :scratchchin: Would they be of any real benefit for a semi sanely drive street car? Yes, I may beat on her some but mainly just for cruising around town. Rear brakes are stock HP drum.

Hate to say it, but I do think the drilled rotors look neat.  :D If there is no real benefit I cannot see spending twice as much. :shruggy:

no..not for a street driven car...yea, they look cool, but I can tell you it's not worth the money..plus they are noisy when braking

put yer money someplace else

Aside from looking cool they will help dissipate heat and your brakes won't fade as quick during "spirited" driving. The big thing for me is they help prevent the rotor from warping. My daily driver went through a few sets before I switched to drilled and slotted rotors, haven't had a single one warp since. But if you are just cruising around the standard rotors will be fine. No need to spend the extra money.  :2thumbs:

Noisy??? On both my cars they are perfectly quiet.   :shruggy:  And if you can hear them on an old car then your brakes are either really bad or your exhaust is too quiet.

yea, they are noisy, like finger nails on a washboard.....new rotors, new pads....4 wheel dics brakes...it's the wifes '03 Chrysler....

again, waste of money on a daily driver car.....

Could pad material be a factor?

FWIW , it all depends on how you drive. Are you a spirited driver that pushes the car? Rotors warp easy on the street as others have said and extra cooling helps prevent this.
These are big cars and brakes can get very hot in repeated stopping situations.
I run slotted and drilled on the rear of my car and as soon as my front wear out they will be switched for a slotted/drilled set as well. Money well spent IMHO

As for the noise, Definately a pad material issue. They don't have to be noisy.... The more aggressive the pad the more noise

Bryan all of the newer (90 forward) Chrysler cars have noise brakes for some reason.

Thanks for the answer folks. I may add slotted and drilled rotors. It will depend on the money.

I'm running ceramic pads, that may be a factor

The general rule is if you are strictly racing, slotted is the safest way to go.  If it is now and again track driven you are safe to go with drilled and slotted.  We run drilled/ slotted and also brake ducts to the front.  I change my rotors every other year depending on track time.  I do not notice and noise difference when running mild pads.  The pads will make the most change in noise.  We run EBC Yellows on the track and Hawk HPS on the street.

I have slotted/drilled on the back. They came with the kit. Used 11.75 cordoba rotors in the front with Hawk HPS pads. Had a choice of slotted or drilled/slotted. The new Challengers use slotted rotors. I have read a few reports of drilled rotors cracking easier. I went with just slotted in the front.  So far no problems with either. I do recommend the Hawk HPS pads. for a street car.   :Twocents:

like whats been mentioned better cooling ,  I have heard drilled discs  can crack  between the drilled holes !!  stress cracks   :shruggy:  maybe its just down to the quality of the discs ,   :scratchchin:
think grooved is a good idea  :scratchchin:

I run my drilled and slotted at the track, have several events and street driven time with no cracks.  I would not worry about it.  You will most likely never exceed the temperatures of what they can handle.  The repetitive high heat situations is what will we fatigue metal, that is why you just have to be responsible and replace as needed.

Even with a few hard a events a year and street time, you should be able to get plenty of life from a set.

Just Planning ahead!
What is the largest Disk brakes (including room for the caliper) that you would put in a 15 inch rim?

505charger

I have been looking at wildwood 12.19" rotors with six piston calipers. Wildwood says that some 15" will fit? There are two kits, one said some 15" will work. The other said 17" minimum wheel size.

Silver R/T

I run slotted rotors on my daily driver and our family car, they work great. Drilled look great but you must buy quality ones, seen cheap drilled rotors crack.
