To make this clear:  are we talking door handle buttons or inside door lock knobs?  Either way, black for me on both!

Fixed it Dino, thanks.  I actually mean the exterior door handle button.

never given it any thought ,
I voted black cause
Mine had SPD of 11-22-68 , & had black buttons originally   :yesnod:
if mine  had a later build date , & it had originally had silver buttons , would of  voted silver  :yesnod:

Btw, mine are chrome and the car was built in June.  My console shifter also sports the chrome knob instead of wood grain.  Don't ask me if they are original to the car as I have no clue.

Mine were originally black, the replacement handles i ordered had chrome buttons, i tried to paint them black, but that was a miserable failure as it scraped off along the edges fairly quickly.  Now considering finding just black buttons and putting those in.

I prefer the black buttons myself, chrome is pretty but the black stands out against the pale yellow exterior.

think we spoke about it on here a while back too ,  doubt it would of been a definite date like a 69 headrests standard by law  cars built on or after January 1st 69 , would of thought  use up the black ones first ?  :shruggy: was it same for both assembly plants ,
be interesting to compile a list of spds with black or chrome or original  cars ,  may be there should be a question on this when registering your charger at the 69 registry ? same as tall bumper guards  :shruggy: , although you would have to be  100 & one percent sure as lots can happen to a car as we all know in over 40 years !!  just a thought

chrome,  black ones look like Chrysler went tightass or forgot to chrome them

I don't like any trim or other exterior pieces on the older cars that isn't chrome. A black button surrounded by silver looks odd to me. Also, I've seen some faded black buttons on a restored car that stand out & look just as bad or worse than pitted chrome.

Black.  My car was built that way and anything else would look wrong to me.
