The good news was the water temp was 32 and you had dry suits on right ?

Yes the water was 4 degrees Celsius so was actually warming than the surrounding air. The suits are called Ice Rescue suits which are 100% closed-cell neoprene.

So yeah the GENERALLY keep you dry and decently warm. Except when you try to swim in them and get water down the neck of the suit. Got frost bite on my chest and stomach.

Cold water sucks period.  I have been diving for 20 years and it would take a miracle for me do that again.

I took a swift water rescue class with about 5 other guys from my fire dept.  We had to have wet suits in order to take the class and the water was I think 38.  From what I remember, the outside temps were somewhere in like the high 20s and needless to say, it kinda sucked coming out of the water.  Either way, learned a lot and made a lot of new friends in PA at the class.
