Damn Charlie that one had it's ass SMACKED!!!!  :icon_smile_big: (and while it's not my color! Sorry Stu!) I think I would have gotten out after that and either cried or flipped!!!
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

I skimmed the comments.  It looks like the insurance company (Haggerty) tried totaling it.  If there was an agreed value, there shouldn't have been an issue unless the repairs came in over that amount.  I'm no expert but it doesn't look totaled to me...  It is disquieting that they would even try.  Btw, I'm glad the 70's had tall seat backs!

It even broke the seam where the 1/4 panel joins the roof panel. :o

Looks like it was someones pride and joy. A member here or at the 70 site.?

There is a good chance that really is a totaled car from an insurance point of view IMO.

They aren't getting ANY free labor in the repair process.

They cannot control costs by shopping at swapmeets & hunting deals for several years while it slowly gets fixed.

They aren't planning on eventually dumping more into it than its replacement value just because they love that particular car.

I have the owner of the car on my Facebook. From what I understand, he got hit. Hagerty tried totalling it but another company he was insured with is fixing it via GYC. Not sure why it was on Copart? I'm under the impression the guy that owned it when it got hit still owns it...

Well that sucks, but perhaps they can put on the right exhaust tips this time around.

Two insurance companies?  Now THAT is totally illegal.  It is obvious this car was rearended by someone else and it is his insurance company that must to fix it, not Hagerty.  Back in the day this would have been an easy fix.  Find another Charger that was hit in the front (85% of all collisions are of a frontal nature so finding a good rear clip would not have been a problem) and back halve the car.  Back in the 80s I worked for one of the best collision shops in Fort Wayne, Indiana and we fixed a number of cars this way.  Then I heard that some idiot back halved a car using pop rivets and the car was T boned and the car split in half killing the occupant.  It didn't take long for all insurance companies to stop authorizing collision shops to back half anything.

Insurance companies won't "authorize" back-halving anything because it's not an approved repair method by nearly all of the auto manufacturers.

That car is not an easy fix. The damage extends well into the unibody. Check out the gap at the vent window, the whole roof structure is pushed forward. There will surely be damage to all of the inner panels in that area, something that none of us can see right now.

Well, at least the owner is having it fixed and it's not another lost cause with a tree growing out of the hood.  :yesnod:

being hit in the rear the car is a "property damage claim" and the company that caused the loss can be forced to pay up to "actual cash value" or agreed figure. Least it used to be that way when I ran a shop.

It's probably in the link I didn't read but I'm hoping at least no one got hurt in that collision?  That thing got smoked pretty hard.

Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY . . . .

Time to increase my agreed value again.   :-\  And I still don't get the "two" insurance company deal...

Could someone please ask/comment about the two insurance companies thing again? I don't think 4-5 times in one page is enough. :D

By the way, where can you find GYC episodes on the internet?
