hemi in a 383 a/c car

just looking for pictures of what guys have done to put a 426 hemi into thier 383 a/c car i know i can't be the first with this idea it had to of been done before just looking for pictures to reference for clearance issues thanks for your time

I believe it's an easy drop in.  The only thing you have to change is the P.B. booster.

It is a swap that has been thousands of times I'm sure. It isn't hard. If you goal is just to put a Hemi in a car that didn't come with one it's fairly simple. If you want it to be "correct" then it's much harder and a lot more expensive. It's not cheap no matter how you go about it though.

Assuming you buy a *complete* engine...

An original Hemi has different motor mounts.  You can get conversion mounts from Schumacher to work around this. Some reproduction blocks/crate engines have standard 383/440 mounting locations.

The standard power brake booster doesn't clear the valve covers of the Hemi. You need the super rare/expensive Bendix or manual brakes.

I don't believe a 2-speed wiper motor will clear the factory air cleaner.

I've never paid attention to A/C but it may have the same issue. Some companies make relocation brackets to move the A/C to the bottom and this would work.

Your fuel lines will be too small to feed the Hemi. Upgrade to 3/8" - and don't forget the sending unit! You'll want the big fuel pump too.

You'll want to upgrade your torsion bars because you're adding a significant amount of weight to the front end.

A brake upgrade would be smart as well (R/Ts had HD brakes - usually 11" drums - and suspension).

You'll likely need a new exhaust.

Since your car came with A/C you'll have the big radiator already.

If you don't get a complete engine, you need a distributor for an RB as the one from your 383 won't fit.

Battery cables are a different length.

You'll want to at least go through the transmission and rear end. Hemis came with an HD transmission - special 727 automatic internals or much beefier 833 manual.

i already now what direction i`m going with the car i just want to see some picture of the guys who have done it so i can get an idea if anybody has done it with stage v heads and probably tall valve covers i imagine to clear the roller rockers
