Every vehicle in my garage has knock sensors except the Chargers and the El Camino.  They feel cheated.

Has anyone installed an aftermarket detection system  on an older car?

GM has a crude ESC (Electronic Spark Control) system in the late 70's....was a bad system all around. Never did work like  they thought is should.

Would be a lot of trouble & adding of spark control processor to retard the timing if a knock was felt by a sensor.

I remember one vehicle had a slight bearing knock and it kept retarding the timing to where it would not drive on a normal level road

Not worth the trouble & money to invest in one.....my opinion

Yea, I keep trying to drag the Chargers kicking and screaming into the 21st. century.

I thought about using an ignition box that had a retard input for NOS or boost. If it mistook normal noise for detonation that would suck.

It's interesting stuff, but may require some tinkering to work properly. You could simply trigger a warning light to begin with, and later, if needed, take the signal to a computer, that's probably what I'm going to do.  :2thumbs:

Here is an example:

I bought a kit  that uses a Bosch knock sensor. It converts the knock signal to a 0-1 volt signal which you can hook up to a LED volt meter for a visual display. I never put it together, I decided that regular plug inspection combined with an O2 wide band works best. Too many bells and whistles can make you paranoid.
