Kids and rear seats belts...

Curious if you guys ever put your kids in the rear seat with the lap belt?  I do that've the shoulder belt configuration back there.

I went out and put lap sash 3 point belts all round only lap center rear, my motivation for doing it was having kids.

Yep, same. Well worth it for the peace of mind, don't really care about originality vs safety

I kept my daughter in her car seat with the harness as long as I could.  This year she was just to tall and we moved to the booster seat with a lap belt.

I do not care about originality either, and would love to mount a harness, maybe Carbeau in the center of the rear seat somehow.  This maybe another winter project for the Charger.

I didn't have mine in the Charger until they were older and then I was fine with just a lap belt.

I installed 3 point seatbelts in the back of my 68.. Once I figured out what to buy, it was pretty straight forward.. I would never let my kids just use a lap belt..

What brand did you guys buy as for shoulder retractable belts? I noticed there are two types manual and auto retractable.

Colorado says 8-years old and lap belts are ok. I'm ambivalent about much more than that because these cars don't have airbags.

There is a thread in here somewhere that provides links to vendors and part#s  for 3 point belts that just bolt into these cars. It's on my list but I have been lax in doing so.

I don't have time to search right now but maybe this evening.  I had saved it at one point...

I had read that using a booster seat with a lap belt is not the safest. A booster is designed to be used in conjunction with a shoulder harness. There are some YouTube videos with crash tests involving a booster with just a lap belt.
I no longer use booster seats, just a lap belt in the back.

I got mine of the British amazon, but try doing a search for the brand name "Securon".. They're the ones I used..

In the old days,

Back when I was about five or six...

When the old man went to the lumber yard, I always had to go along.

When he bought some l-o-n-g lumber, he'd put the top down on the '65 Fury convertible...

Lay the boards on the dash, across tops of the seats, and out onto the deck lid.

It was my job to stand up in the backseat and hold on to the boards.

Great. . .  have not heard that yet.    We have to use the booster seats here in Indiana until the child is 4'9".

This winter, a 3 or 4 point harness of some type will need to be installed.

Good plan Dino.  I got a complete seat with Ssnake Oyl tags sewn on sent over in the trunk of my car when I had it shipped. I do a lot of long distance drives and want to be safe, wife wanted them in too.
Strange thing though, when I went to install them, I found the early 68 build cars did not have the captive nut inserted into the headliner structure for the front belts. We ended up enlarging the hole and welding the correct nut/bracket in place
