Plug reading

So just pulled my plugs to do a compression test and I wanted some thoughts on what I saw. It seems like the further back they get the more black they are, but the 1 and 4 are pretty white. I'm guessing 2 is white too, but I didn't take it out because I loosen the motor mounts and raise the engine to get a socket on it. So I'm not sure how I can get it off. Maybe an angled boxend wrench, but I don't have any of those yet. :) When I do get it out I will be looking for a shorter plug that's for sure!

I remember being told that reading plugs to determine the proper air/fuel ratio needs to be done IMMEDIATELY after a WOT run while the engine is still hot.
Forget that stuff! I have 2" headers and limited clearance, I'm not burning my hands to do that.

If your plug reading was for the purposes of trying to detect detonation, I think you would be looking for speckles on the porceline.

I was told that once before too.  I reminded the man that it's hot, and asked if I was suppose to wear welding gloves.  I think his response was along the lines of do what you got to do.

When are the header manufacturers going to put O2
sensor bungs near the ports to help us optimally tune our engines.

You'd think they would see the sales potential??

That is what you want to do for WOT jetting but you can get a primary jetting plug reading by simply staying out of the secondaries and doing a plug reading after a 15-20 minute cruise.  :yesnod:

Luke ;

-heat range is perfect...the 6 series plug is the "right" heat range. Your 8's were too cold
-primary jetting is a bit rich....try 2 sizes smaller and take it out for a cruise and stay out of the secondaries.
