I have a 1970 Dodge Charger 500 with a 340 engine with a 4 barrel carb.  I am thinking of replacing the 4 barrel with a Carter 2 barrel carb.  What problems would this create if any?  Would I have to change the manifold? I appreciate any feedback.

A383Wing

yes, changes would include manifold, carb, fuel lines, kick-down linkage, and maybe gas pedal cable....

also, air cleaner

not sure why you wanna change it...keep yer foot out of the secondaries and you will get better mileage with the 4bbl

Ghoste

Maybe a switch to a spreadbore would help you.

It'd be more money and trouble to change it than it would be to just lay off on the gas pedal from time to time.  Also, IMO removing a 4bbl and putting a 2bbl on a Charger is like taking an NFL cheerleader and cutting one of her 34DD's off...

No it wouldn't.  You just have to put the other 2 carbs on it as well.

If you're running an aftermarket square bore manifold, you could just put on a 2bbl adaptor.  You might have to adjust your linkages to deal with the added height and check your hood clearance.

To all you fellow Charger owners, thanks for the input regarding the changing of the 4 barrel carb.  I had heard different opinions about the swap, but I was pretty much thinking of keeping it.  I knew that by asking this forum I would get the correct info.

Thanks again
