Nichrome wire used in gauge clusters.

Does anyone know the ohms per foot, gauge of the Nichrome wire used in the temp, fuel, and oil pressure gauges? Is the wire coated?.. etc I plan on trying to repair my gauges.

Just an update to my own question that I posted here. Looks like I am going to attempt a repair of a couple of my gauges bu ussing 40 turns/wraps of 34 gauge teflon coated nichrome wire at around 20 ohms per foot. I'll let you know how it goes.

Success!!! The trick to repairing the gauge is to count the number of turns of teflon coated 34 gauge wiring from inside the gauge, re-wrap using a tight wind because the heat from the wire transfers into the bi-metal strip causing it to bend. I have repaired my fuel gauge and my temperature gauge along with updating the regulator to a LM7805. Use patience and here is a secret.. scrape the ends of the wire that will be soldered to the screw heads. I used nichrome wire that offered 20 ohms per foot resistance. joe_kenney1@earthlink.net
