Hey guys, I'm just about done rebuilding my 383. When I was putting the lefter back in I'm not sure if two of them got mixed up. Someone told me they had to go back in the same place. There was no marking on them ,I don't think they have been in the engine long. How critical is it?
They are stock lefters.

Hi - Yes, you ned to have the lifters in the same location as they came out.  :yesnod:

Basiclly the cam and lifter 'mate' with each other per cam lobe and they fall into a groove with one another. If you mix it up I believe you risk wiping the cam lobes out. Its not worth it over 100$ lifters. If there is any confusion I would replace them with new ones. See Johnson lifters at the sticky at the top if you want good quality ones. :2thumbs:

Ya that's what I figured. Freak en bone head move. I'll have to go get a set.

Dont forget that after the new one's are installed to do the 20 min break in for the cam again.  :2thumbs:
