"Alleged" I should say because there was no other info near the car that I could find, and I'm assuming the 2005 movie is what they are referring to. There were a total of four DC.com members at the Woodburn Mopar Nationals from what I hear so maybe one of them has more info on this car. The damage is consistant with that jump but I thought it would actually be more severe than what I saw here. At any rate, enjoy the pics and grieve the mayhem. :2thumbs:

Bull,

Sorry I didn't get to meet you, there were more than four of us there.

As far as I heard, they want to restore the car. It is so twisted that I don't see that much could be done. The whole roof was twisted. It's a mess...

Hi! Mike pointed you out from a distance but by the time I was done talking to him you were gone. Next year I plan to bring my '68 and camp next to it so I can meet everyone instead of missing everyone. I'm about 98% sure I'll be driving it this summer and should have it dialed in for Woodburn next year.

That's who "they" is? I saw a Graveyard Carz van there so I assumed those guys were around somewhere. Woodburn isn't too far from their shop.

anyone know what steering wheel that is? to me it looks like it was ripped from a 77-79 vette, but maybe thats just me  :scratchchin:

From what i read they removed the drivetrain from the car to make it lighter for the jump and have better balance. They launched it with some type of catapult. Supposedly there was so little damage that this car was used for another jump in the movie.

Not as collectable as a TV series car but more collectable than your run-of-the-mill 69. Anytime a Charger gets screen time it's going to have somewhat of a following.

Sounds good bull, I look forward to that...

The car actually still has a big block and a trans in it. It was a total bondo buggy. If it were my car, I would leave it how it is and put it in a show room (if I was a DOH fan). I think its far from a resto candid. It is so twisted...

I'm a frickin' lobster.  I shaved my head so I was wanting to get some sun.  I only had my hat off for an hour but I'm gonna pay tonight.

I think Travis would know about the GL.  Isn't he the one who bought that particular car from the movie company.  There's a picture of him floating around sitting on the hood.

That's the real thing.

They did the freeway jump twice.  This car is the 2nd one, the take they used in the final cut of the movie.

It was weird for the 2005 movie because it didn't have the same rollcage & pushbar like the rest of the movie GLs.  It was bought as a GL already and they just used the rollbar & pushbar already on the car.

The damage was surprisingly low because the movie did mostly cable-launched "sling" jumps instead of having live drivers.  (Picture an aircraft carrier throwing a jet off the deck.)  The cars had been stripped down to be as light as possible.  No drivetrain + no trunk ballast to offset the drivetrain + no driver or other safety mods for him = most of 1500 lbs lighter than a traditional powered GL jump car.  Less sprung weight means less force on the frame/chassis when it lands.  This is partly why they were able to patch up & launch some of those movie GLs a second time.

---------------------------

Restore it?  I wouldn't, but the job is probably no worse than half the R/Ts that get fixed every day.  Frames can be pulled straight.  I'd prefer a bent car over a rustier car any day.

It was nice meeting you today too. Your car is amazing!!!! I think I got a bit to much sun as well, my head and neck are already burning... Surprised my white legs didn't change colors...

There were at least seven members there that I know of today, counting Mark. Not bad for a small show...

What's with the roof flag?  :scratchchin:

I wondered about that too. My guess is that the car's been sitting out in the California sun for 5 years bleaching out a cheap decal.

Brightyellow69rtse

they did the cable method as mentioned above to jump the cars. it really kept the damage down.

fy469rtse

not sure this is a freeway jump , car , reason roof is all twisted ,is the guy driving in the shots was in a go cart like capsule on the roof, reviewed the making of it, the part of movie just after they left the university campus and are being chased,  and very sure this the car that hits the two cop cars that block, lock their brakes and slide to block him in and he punches straight through them with damage consistent to seen on this car, none off the freeway jump cars came out in any shape similar to the damage seen on this car retakes show freeway jump cars landing and the violently slamming into guard railings, damage severe, also with the launch part of catapult the frame for this was in the engine bay fully welded in ,next they will be claiming this the car that jumped the river, behind the scene's show that car meeting a violent ending with one door being ripped off with a pillar and lower section of bulkhead to that side, any way just my opinion

Ghoste

Were the movie cars not all tracked by VIN as to what their role was in production with said VIN correlation being common knowledge among the GL faithful?

I actually agree with you, though it does say freeway jump car in multiple places. However, this car DOES for sure have a big block in it with a trans and a driveline. The damage to the front is consistent with the car that blows through the two police cars. I also remember seeing the making of and I know one for sure went HARD into the wall. It did have some bracing inside the car and on the K-frame...

The Roof on this car is twisted pretty bad as is the whole car, but not how you would expect from a jump like that...

Many of the '05 movie cars have already gotten major repaint & restoration work by subsequent owners.  Body panels changed, engines reinstalled, full blown restorations, etc.  If this car's current appearance is only semi-accurate to how it appeared onscreen, it would not be the first.

The roof driver GLs were a different animal altogether.  They had a bunch of additional mods to make that setup work.  Reinforced suspensions for the extra weight, hydraulics for the controls, big rollcages to mount the roof pods onto, etc.  Not to mention having the bodywork around the back window/trunklid cut away to fit a camera looking into the cabin, which was the main purpose for the remote-mounted driver on top.

As for the GL that rammed the police roadblock in Baton Rouge/Atlanta - check the rollcage visible on that car.  Much bigger than this car has.

Where does this supposed info come from? This car was not used in another jump. The other freeway launch car, which i owned after filming wrapped in 2005, was jumped 3 times, with the middle jump being the freeway launch

I did not own the car in the OP posting. This is the other freeway launch car. It has been in Kansas the last few years, not sure why the flag got like that unless it just faded. I love the "freeway launch car" homemade decal on the wing window. That was not put on there by the transportation dept. during filming. Not sure why it's going to be on graveyard carz.  :shruggy:
To clear up some mis-info. YES the car pictured above was in fact a freeway launch car during the 2005 movie. There were 2 of them. Mine was the other one. This particular car did not do another jump in the movie. My car was jumped 3 times, 2 of which were screen filmed jumps, the 3rd being a "practice"  catapult jump at the transportation dept for a jump the next day at the courthouse(by a different car).
