Anyone know anything about three wheelers, or clutches for them or motorcycles?

 I've been building a house and fixing my car I put my 83 honda 200x in a corner(for four years). Well I rebuilt the carb. And changed the oil. I also put new front forks on and fired it up. Sounds good but my clutch doesn't want to work right. I put it on a stand and pull in the lever and kick it in gear and the wheels start to turn. I work the lever back and worth and they keep spinning. I can touch the tire with my foot and stall the motor.  Now when I changed the oil I pulled the lever and looked through the dipstick hole and stuff was moving around. So I'm stumped as to the issue. I tried to search another three wheeler site but couldn't find anything with my issue. Not sure if any of you guys know anything about how the clutches work in these things.

sounds like the disc are stuck together,try riding it & get some heat into it,but be careful.

I agree. Sounds like it is stuck. You will see some movement, it just doesn't disengage like it should when it's stuck.

I'm going to try that today. Hopefully I'll be back to post results, wether its from home or hospital.

Ok, I made it back from test drive. I went through all the gears and worked the clutch lever the whole time. Nothing, so what do you guys think.

Yeah, it does feel normal. Just like it always has. When I changed the oil I looked done inside and I could see stuff moving when I pulled lever. I'm thinking I need a clutch rebuild kit. 

Oh we'll, at least it runs now.

Ok, I tried that and no go. I'm gonna open it up and see tomorrow. Maybe I can work it free that way

What oil did you use? A motorcycle/atv oil has properties for the wet clutch. I don't know much but could using car oil (if you did) not allow the clutches to slip properly?

Sometimes the clutch basket will get grooves worn into it from where the teeth on the friction discs ride.  This causes the discs to not slide open as easily.  That can cause a "sticky" clutch.  Fix for that is to either get a new clutch basket, or simply file down the grooves smooth again and keep on rockin.   

If I remember right, I think honda specced out just regular 30 or 40 weight oil, nothing special.  I usually use motorcycle 10w-40, but I don't think it's absolutley neccesary.  Got a pile of 200x parts I need to get at someday, current trail bike is an '84 250R.
