Every Saturday night in my town they have this little classic car cruise in down around the courthouse square...and ONCE have I ever seen a Charger.

So tonight I thought I would take my Beast down there and let me tell you...he was one of the most popular ones down there.  lol  I had young kids going "OMG!  That is a Charger!"  Then when I left some guys were like "Holy crap...that's a girl driving that car!"   ::)

lol

And yesterday I met smasherofall at a cruise in thing at a local mall here and all I can say is THANK YOU.  Seriously nice guy.

I am not going to do much more driving until the oil pan gets changed so the oil can get changed as well as get rid of that puny radiator.  Not big enough to carry the engine that is for sure.  And those pesky frame rails.

But you all...just wanted to say I am having fun.  I cannot wait to have it in a good running condition (with the gauges working lol).   I never expected this much reaction.  I think they were so excited down there to see a new car as it typically is the same people every week.  And never hardly a mopar.  Lots of people looked at it...

:P

Just wanted to share my excitement.

I forgot my camera!  My Mom came down there and took some, but not developed yet.  There is an old ice cream looking shop where I parked my car in front of (Could not get it by the rest of the classics) that she got some cool pictures of it there.

Glad you're having fun. I wish I had known that a Charger didn't have to be perfect for it to attract attention and to be a blast to drive. I'd be cruising myself instead of waiting on parts, banging up knuckles, breathing who-knows-what while sanding, and hauling shells and parts all over the countryside. Oh well, reading about it keeps me motivated... :D

We need a barn raising party at Troy's house.  Get 8 of us together (not me, cause I'd screw something up somewhere) or just Chryco and we'll have your '68 runnin in no time!!!

Which one? Part of my problem is collecting more cars before finishing the first ones... :D

It's always good to get to a cruise no matter what shape the car is in. People always check it out, talk to you about it, & in general are usually friendly. My Satellite is just rolling around in primer, & it sometimes gets more attention than the painted cars. Glad you had a good time, but remember the camera next time.

You know I came thisclose to not taking it down there even though lot of those people knew I had one.   I mean ALL of the cars are pretty much 100 percent restored (although one day there was a car there with electrical tape painted black to help hold the body panels together).   I was so thinking "Ok this thing drips tranny fluid and antifreeze...the dash is cracked like heck and the interior minus the seats and carpet needs major help...how embarassing for it is not how I want it"

There is a guy who tried to sell me his 68 Charger awhile back, but it is a total project car (it is in buckets)...he knows alot about these cars so I figured hey...I know nothing...I am learning....I need to get this down there.   He was there luckily and happy for his wife is letting him keep his Charger now (they made a deal lol), but he came right to my car and begin to look through it.   Said he figured if he saw me walking around he would know I finally found one.   So he went through the engine bay for me...and gave me some advice on what I need to do now...and so forth.   I am new at this...I am the first to admit it so I need lots of advice on what I have sitting at my home right now.

There was a couple mopar guys there and I got some great advice and etc.   And the guy who is doing my frame rails told me it would be fine for small rides as long as I stay away from big pot holes.    I also asked around about the place I am getting that work down at and heard nothing but good things so that is good.

The more I drive it the more problems arise.   But eh?   What can I say?   In a few weeks it will be on it's way for new frame rails and then this winter I will be working on it myself.   :)

And hey Troy...I passed along the message about this site too .  :)

Oh and it does make the headaches worthwhile...I know I am driving around with a crap eating grin on my face.  Once I get the major needs to do NOW stuff done I will be more comfortable.

The headaches get bigger but so do the grins.  Truth is, I think one is directly proportional to the other.

At this point I would not know what to do if this car stopped giving me headaches.  Now I will say I turned red when I parked for it proceeded to pour out antifreeze all over the ground in front of all these people.  There is a hose for overflow, but it does not have anything to catch it.  Something like that.  These guys told me what I needed to buy and do for that.  But yeah...it had to burp up the antifreeze.

The car needs alot of help, but I myself was surprised at the attention it got. People were just exicted to see a Charger in these parts.

I imagine most of us have had the embarrassing roadside coolant puke at some time or other.  Where approximately are you at anyway?  Just being nosy.

DarkAngel, i'm just wondering which local cruise in you went to. If you met up with SmasherofAll at a local cruise that puts you in the same area that I live in. Would love to run into another Charger owner at an event.

I take my 69 500 just about every Saturday night down to the Suds in Greenwood. I have also been to the cruise in on the West side of town at the Sam's Club on friday nights, and the mall cruise in on the east side of town on Friday nights.

Hopefully we will run into each other somewhere. Always up to meeting someone from the board.

I might even be cruising over to the nats again this year with Smarsherofall.

:2thumbs: Sounds like things are getting better for you and the Charger. It's great that you can drive it a little bit.

Great story!
All that enthusiasm around you that night will surely help keep your own enthusiasm up, I'm sure.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Never give up! My Charger 1969 Rusted Trash broke in half from rust. I will added I am a Pioneer when come's down to Mopar Rust. Only thing that did not rust was the glass! Guy on undercoating duty's must have been a sleep in a closet when mine went by on the line! That was a normal thing to do back then on the night shift, so I was told by many X Chrysler work's I have talked with.

I think mine was the first to rust in half as well, around 1995. At that point there where NO New Frame rails. I had to cut mine out of dead 69 Charger R/T. My friends and I took it as a good sigen when we saw the Charger had been section before in the front. Cut at the wind sheild post across and fire wall. Must all most been new when that happened. Other wise it would have been totaled.

Heck, only reason I saved mine was a guy I was trying to sell the reamain's to pissed me off. Inside's where all new, new 1/4, year one Tip's, one tip's and door handels, fresh 727 and running great BB. Offred me a whole $500.00. Steve but the iceing on the cake when he said "Ken, you know you will never fix this car, when you are tired of it laying in your drive way, call me and I will haul it off"!

Tell me I cannot do something will piss me off, and I will do it just to piss them off.

10 year's later, Viper Red, pretty straight and new Blown 440 sitting in the bay. Just to dumb to give up, and glad I am that way.

I will save anything that has a pinstar on it! ;D

LMAO Ken!   Great story!   Sounds like me...if you tell me I cannot do something or will not do something then it totally pisses me off.   I do not plan to give up on this car.   Regardless what I do to it in the future at least it goes this way..."I saved a mopar!"   Just sad to see how neglected these cars get..

69_500      I do not dare to drive it to Greenwood or Washington Square quite yet...the radiator is totally the wrong one.   I told Smarsherofall maybe next Spring when his car is done and mine is more settled in with what needs to be done now...we shall take them up to Washington Square lol.

Yep...even though the Beast needs alot of things done...I had to take him there...lol.   I recieved alot of advice and etc from people who know way more then I do.   So it was worth it.   I did have a good time.   Much better to be an owner then just a looker.   lol

Well there should be lots of Mopar resources around there for you.  Are you bringing that car to Columbus next weekend?

I'm glad I got to meet you. When I get a chance I'll come up to Nobcity to help get your dash back together and working and maybe get you out of the sauna business :'(  your dad and brother are cool too!! :2thumbs:

blackcharger

Yeah,  you really don't want to take your car around all the nice looking finished cars, tore up interior, bad paint or primer(that's me!), but the biggest part of us started where you are. I am, finished my Charger, sold it (stupid I know) bought a basket case road runner to replace one I had to sell to pay off bills. BUT, the ear to ear grin when I drive it makes it worth it.If the wife hadn't wanted the kitchen remodeled this summer, i'd be way ahead of where I am on the runner. but bit by bit, it's getting there. Have a blast with your Charger!

DFS68_Charger

Another Indy Charger owner checking in. I think that weekly get together up in the Ville is one that my friend goes to. He's got a Bug Eye he just finished last year. Cant remember if its red or green with white stripe.
I might make it up there sometime if I ever get my 68 done.

69_500

Hey there DFS, how is the car coming. I haven't seen you since last winter. When you came down to Greenwood to check out the 500 and a buddy of mines Q5 69 R/T.

Nothing wrong with taking a car without great interior to a cruise in. I took my sunroof car everywhere, including to the Mopar Nationals. And let me tell you this, that car needed a lot.
