Chrysler did this with the 3/8 scale race car wind tunnel models in 1968.   They had detailed chassis pans and even a fan powered by an electric motor under the hood.

Chrysler had a model shop internally that did the 3/8 scale cars.   In the case of the '68,  they drove the full size race car down a hall to get it in the building.
