He should of just sold the whole car, no matter how big of a pile.

Troy

I believe that *technically* it is legal to sell. It is, however, illegal in all 50 states to build a car from it. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

I just let his local DA's office know about it.

The seller will simply claim it's for "entertainment purposes only" or "historical preservation only" or some such.

It's the buyer, who then builds, who has a legal problem.

someone must have informed him of the can of worms it could have opened. :eek2: if a 318 barracuda was faked using this cars numbers and i spent my hard earned money on this real cuda so i thought, we would have a big problem, question is when would i have found out??  :icon_smile_angry:

Ghoste

The question isn't is it legal to sell that stuff, but rather is the ensuing recreation that arises from it a "restoration" or a "rebody"?

Alaskan_TA

It is illegal, I reported it to the NICB & IAATI.

With a 'clean' set of numbers, a buyer could steal a 1970 car & change the numbers, making the stolen car disappear out of the system.

Baldwinvette77

it depends on the buyer to my knowledge, in ontario, i was actually told, if the buyer provides titles for both the vin number he bought and the car he wants to put them on it can be legal, but it will be "branded" as salvage... but we all know thats not going to happen  ::) also just an addition if someone was to buy a dynacorn reproduction, camaro, challenger, chevelle etc. and provided the receipt for the body he could actually take the vin off another camaro, challenger etc. of the same year (with the title in his name)and install it on the new body, but again it will be salvage and this is only for ontario, no clue about other places.

They got back to me and said unless someone installs this, they can't do anything. :brickwall:

They can keep a record of it.  If a car comes up with this vin, busted.

Well hopefully all of the Cuda fans are paying attention to it and recording the numbers.

The last four lines of his "description" either elude to or flat-out state that the main reason to buy these parts is for the purpose of building a rebody car. Still, I doubt he got many takers since the real scum is probably looking for a 440 or Hemi car to fake. The risk/reward ratio really isn't in their favor with a 383 car.

70moparman

the ad states "and have a real big block 70 cuda" ~ but its not real, your welding another cars data tags on another car.  When you re-body the entire car, chassis and all, you should have to use the title to the chassis... Nothing about the next car is going on will be "REAL"

Oh, I don't know about that.  ;)
