I'm almost to the point that I will start on the mechanicals to my car and I have been thinking about the rear.  The existing is a open 489 rear that is pretty sad so my thought is to take it to a local shop and have them rebuild it.  Question is...should I go for the suregrip or leave it open??  If the suregrip where can I get one??  It will be a daily driver, with NO track time so now what.  My intent is to install 3.55 gears with a GV unit for HI way cruising.

Assuming it's going to be a big block, you will want the sure grip.

With NO track time/intentions, then I'd leave it open. Far less cost that you will never see the benefit from. If All out traction is the name of the game, then you need the Sure Grip. I run an open 3.23 unit in the GL and have one side preloaded so it acts like a Sure Grip. Not hard to do with a little research on Open diffs, and suspension books.
