Sorry about your situation.  It's a very depressing and difficult thing to go through.

The economy in the USA is bad too.

In truth the working and middle classes have been steadily eroding in the USA since the 1970s.  There have been ups and downs along the way (the present is certainly a down period) but the big picture shows a long steady pattern.

Bob,

I'm so sorry the economy has taken its toll on you too. The upside is your skills, being a plumber and welder, are always in demand. You will be working again very soon. I feel it in my old bones.

Yes. A hundred different times. Happily there is no shortage of work here for a strong back attached to a weak mind.

Keep your chin up, Bob and anyone else in this situation and keep looking! Remember, luck is what you do with opportunity.

I am so sorry for anyone in this situation. Believe me, I have been there. It does eat at your heart and soul but, things will get better. Just keep looking and something will come up.

We are in pretty good shape, jobwise, here (SE Texas) and a person can find work here if you are willing to work!

I am sorry to hear your situation.  I wish you and your family/friends better for the future, it is a tough situation all around.
Who in their right mind would say

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Yep, Economy here Sucks monkey balls, but So far been lucky. Got sh*t canned about 4 years ago said it was "due to the economy". I knew better.
He had some POS in the office watching Netflix movies he was paying for, and paying him to watch them, and I get the axe?

Some employers use the economy to freeze out folks so they won't have to pay Retirement pensions. I think these types should be forced to work hard labor the rest of their lives like the ones they many times fire.

Like mentioned, Not to hard to find employment here if you know your way round a burger, or a lawnmower.

They also use the economy to get rid of the employee that calls in sick once a week, spends an hour on the crapper, takes a ten minute smoke break every hour, works from home whenever their kid sneezes.........

Bob, from your threads and the reproduction of the 69 grille, I would say you are a pretty talented and resourcefull guy that won't be out of work long. Try to enjoy the breather.  :2thumbs:

Bobfist; I'm so sorry to hear about your job loss.... I hope things get better for you soon... Plumbers & Welders use to be an in-demand job/career over here anyway... I've done both... I'm not un-employed but self employed, have been for years & have 2 companies, both are extremely slow, near dead work wise, 1 Golf related & 1 Construction related companies, the thing I keep hearing from everyone & especially the 35-70 y/o customer base is, no-one has any extra spending money or they are sitting on it & won't spend it, for fear of what might be in the near future... Our economy sucks here in Calif., like most all the heavily populated coastal regions of the USA & it has for about 5+ years now & it's getting worse everyday, our country is in economic trouble, we have the highest ever amount's & %'s of people on, Welfare, receiving Food Stamps, on Disability or Un-employed/on Un-employment, far more than any figure you see on the news, there're so many people that have fallen threw the cracks, that aren't even being counted, or in our published non-working population #'s, it's all a big smoke screen.... I'm really glad I don't have any house payments or car payments anymore, own everything out-right or I'd be even much more worried about the future, something has got to change, SOON...

Depends for who, some people (like my neighbors) are trading in their cars every 2-3 years, another neighbor bought brand new RV, people are buying things all around me.
Economy is not as bad as you might think. Giant corporations keep telling their employees that it's bad as not to pay them higher wages. I can't say how it's in other states but here in WA it's decent.
I dont think a well qualified professional will be out of job for long, as long as he doesn't have high standards for starting wages. There are jobs around here but not many people want them since they start you out at minimum wage, most people choose to collect unemployment instead.

I'm not sure of Sweden, but here in the USA there are going to be a whole lot of people losing their jobs between now and when oblahblahcare kicks in.  :brickwall:

Sorry to hear of your job loss. This are not any better here in Canada either. Middle class is shrinking rapidly. Pretty soon there will be no one left to pay all the taxes! I was a mold maker/toolmaker for 25 years and had to do something else due to most of the jobs going to China. I started my own business repairing small engine equipment and am much happier! I learned to live on less......

Yep, got laid off at the end of Jan. I was able to get a new job in April. Better job and employer now but scary when it's your only source of real income and you have a family.  Keep a positive attitude if you can. It helps but is seriously hard to do. Maybe start working for yourself? I started down that path when the offer came in.

got layed off in the big one in 09, lost homes, lost the CHARGER, lost it all, just to make ends meet and let me tell ya it was horrible.  Getting layed off for no reason at all!!!!  Then supporting the family with 4 kids is tough...then when you thought it couldnt get tougher the creditors call asking why you didnt pay the mortgage and you tell them I lost my job and then them telling you over the phone that I lost my job because Im an idiot not able to keep one.  You tell them about the economy they say, 'Well I got a job how come you dont'  ::)

so yeah I been there did that kinda of deal...I was jobless for 2 years couldnt find crap and I applied to McDs they didnt even hire me kept calling them and said I was 'over qualified' I told them "I need something just anything'.  I tell ya begging does not work here in the states anymore when you beg they believe you have alterior motives.

got back on my feet after 2.5 years though....thats another story.

Dang 1974dodgecharger, And I thought I had it rough...Just goes to show you that creditors really do not care. Worried myself right now. Don't know what the future holds. Might even be working out the backyard again. anything to keep the house payment made I guess.

It was not bad I did a offer to deliver pizzas for pizza hut after 2.3 years of jobless they offered it to me on the spot.  The lady talked to me and i told her im just jobless I need anything to make a little money she told me what I was gonna get etc.  Then when I got home someone called me out of the blue to go work for my old company, but as a temp. job.  at roughly half my pay. Well long story short I took the temp job and they rehired me back 6 months later....so it was a long road back.   glad to be making money again and the funny thing is things dont stress me out as much as they used such as my freakin starter out of the 68 I couldnt get out then I couldnt get back in due the hooker headers in the way.....I just laugh now about it in my head.....

yeah creditors dont care really put me at low spot in my life the things they said......

F8-4life

Been out of work for 2 years due to injury. Had to sell my 68 coronet and my 2 spare 69 charger grills... Almost had to let my 69 charger go too.
The deppressing thing is injury leakes over into pretty much all aspects of your life not just employment.
All in all I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Sad thing is, with this getting worse and worse, people are feeling like they need to work longer and longer hours to make ends meet. longer into their Late 60's-early 80's and that takes a toll. People are getting hurt in record numbers nowadays. I see them falling like flies around here. One day they are ok, and the next day, their bodies just give out. Sucks to bust your hump all your life only to be worse off than you were before. If the Gov. doesn't do something to renew the American spending faith, I fear we all are gonna be hurtin. I guess there will come a time when I will have to sell off my junk to make ends meet. Course, these cars will prolly be back down to pricing lower than when I bought 'em back in the 90's by then.

I'm SO lucky I guess to have my health, or what's left of it. I feel for anybody with injuries. Wifey (most know this story) I had to watch in so much pain. Sucks, and I wasn't hurting. Just watching her damn near killed me as I couldn't do anything to help her.
